OCEANPORT, N.J. - Colony Club pulled off a 10-1 upset Saturday in the $65,000 Fort Monmouth Stakes for filly and mare sprinters on the turf at Monmouth Park.

After stalking the early pace, Colony Club ($26.60) rallied three wide to beat Ahvee’s Destiny by a half-length. It was the first win of the season and the initial stakes win for the 5-year-old Colony Club, owned and trained by Maryland-based Alexandra White.

“Everything worked out perfectly,” said White as she celebrated her first stakes win. “She’ll go back to Maryland. We train off the farm down there. I’m sure she’ll be back at Monmouth for another race like this one.”

It was also a poignant victory for jockey Forest Boyce, who got her first win aboard Colony Club on June 30, 2009.

“She’s a very nice filly,” Boyce said. “You can put her wherever. She can race on the lead or from behind. She’s a tough little filly and everything worked out well today.”

Cherry On the Top got third. The time was 1:02.17 for the 5 1/2 furlongs.
