Mongoose Gold tests streak

Mongoose Gold appears to be the one to catch in the $50,000 Central Iowa Stakes for fillies and mares at Prairie Meadows. The 1 1/16-mile test has attracted a field of seven, but Mongoose Gold is the only true front-running threat, and could be gone. The Jim Gulick trainee brings a two-race winning streak into her Prairie Meadows debut. Carlos Montalvo will be aboard Mongoose Gold, an Arlington invader.

Amazing Speed has had an unproductive year so far, but if you discount her races on synthetic surfaces and if she can duplicate her dirt form of 2007, she has a chance to upset. Her trainer, Steve Asmussen, has made a habit out of picking his spots on Prairie's stakes schedule, and a win from Amazing Speed, who will be ridden by Joel Campbell, would be no surprise.

Stop a Train has the ideal running style should the speedy Mongoose Gold falter. She is coming off a second-place finish in a restricted stakes at Fairmount Park, and jockey Perry Compton should have her in a tracking position.
