Momsboy closes late in Finger Lakes Juvenile

In upper stretch of the $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile on Saturday, it looked as if either Mike From Queens or the filly Vintage Touch would come away the winner. The pair had battled head and head from the start and put a large distance between themselves and the other four runners in the field on the far turn.

But then, just as Mike From Queens seemed to be getting the best of Vintage Touch, Momsboy hit his best stride and began closing the gap. With the top pair flattening out a bit late, Momsboy ran by from the outside and was up to score by a neck. Mike From Queens held second by three-quarters of a length over Vintage Touch, who had won the Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies in her last start on Oct. 18.

After being outrun early through quick fractions of 22.44, 45.68, and 58.24 seconds, Momsboy completed the six furlongs in 1:11.40. He paid $8.40 to win. The victory was the second in five starts for Momsboy, who is trained by John Tebbutt and was ridden by Elaine Castillo.
