'Mojo' stays perfect

Mikimoto's Mojo ran his career mark to 2 for 2 with strong rally in the $125,000 Lafayette Stakes on Monday at Evangeline Downs. Longshot Mr Bubba reported home second, followed by 8-5 favorite Possetothemax.

Patiently handled by E.J. Perrodin, Mikimoto's Mojo ($7.40) advanced with a four-wide move through the turn in the six-furlong affair for 2-year-olds and challenged on the outside turning for home. He steadily increased his advantage to be three lengths clear in a time of 1:11.71. A Hold That Tiger colt, he is trained by Pat Mouton for Stanley Seelig.

Also on the closing night's program, Costa Rising ran to his 1-10 price and validated his smashing victory in last month's Evangeline Mile by defeating many of those same foes in the $50,000 Labor Day Purse. After dueling early with High Strike Zone, Costa Rising shook clear and finished a remarkable 17 1/2 lengths in front. The final time of 1:36.70 was just .20 off the track record he set in the Mile, and he earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 117.
