Mohawk: Trotting filly Bee A Magician remains perfect in 2013

Filly trotting sensation Bee A Magician kept her 2013 undefeated streak intact after a hard-fought victory in the Ontario Sire Stakes Midsummer Challenge at Mohawk Racetrack.

Reunited with local driver Rick Zeron, Bee A Magician was stung a bit leaving from her far outside post but worked her way to the front before a half of 56 2/5. Zeron was able to rate from there getting a comfortable three quarters in 1:25 2/5, but he had to resort to all out urging in the late stages when pocket-sitting Motown Muscle came charging. The two fillies hit the wire together, with Bee A Magician prevailing by the slimmest of margins in 1:53 1/5.

“It was a struggle to make the front. I knew from post ten there wouldn’t be many holes for me,” said winning driver Rick Zeron. “She was lollygagging on the front until Jody (driver Jamieson) came, then she dug in.”

Tonight’s victory makes Bee A Magician a perfect ten-for ten on the season and bumps her career earnings over $1.6 million for owners Melvin Hartman, Herb Liverman and David McDuffee and trainer Richard “Nifty” Norman. Sent off as the overwhelming 1/9 favorite, Bee A Magician returned $2.20 to win.
