Mohawk: Thursday 9/13 Analysis

MEET STATS: 19 - 50 / $86.00

Race 1

(9) CANADIAN WILDCAT suffered a first over trip in his most recent outing over a sloppy track. The Waples-Steacy combination has been very successful over the past few seasons. This gelding will likely come from off the pace. (8) ILL BE THERE has been racing very well in his last three starts and with his gate speed, he should be a factor from post eight. (1) YACKETY YAK looks like he’s got the potential to be a nice horse if he can put his game face on. Don’t overlook his 1:54 4/5 effort two starts ago.

Race 2

(4) PRIVATE EQUITY was extremely impressive in his last start coming from well back to finish second. It’s a fairly wide open race and he could offer some value. (6) GROWLY GUS enters the claiming ranks for the first time for Bob McIntosh. He’s entering the horse where he thinks he can win. (8) SPIKE HANOVER got parked every step last week, but was very impressive in 1:51 3/5 at Mohawk two starts back.

Race 3

(4) VICTIM OF CHANGES is certainly due for a win and at this level it could very well happen. I hope he’s closer to the front than last week. (1) TOUCHDOWN TOSS has been very consistent this year for trainer Jeff Gillis. I’m not sure if he can win, but he’s a must have on your triactor ticket (10) THE GOLDEN CHILD was very impressive last week from post seven over a sloppy track. Had this horse drawn inside, he likely would have been my top choice. Don’t count him out.

Race 4

(5) SOMEWHEREINHEAVEN raced very well last week but got tired late. She’s the horse to beat in my opinion. (4) BURLSEQUE has been knocking on the door in her last few starts. She’ll need a ground saving trip to win. (6) KEEP THE DREAM has been very good in her young career. She’s a big filly, so this track will only increase her chances.

Race 5

(7) HORNETS NEST won a Grassroots event two starts ago. She should be able to handle this group on the same surface. (8) PAINTING THE TOWN is a first time starter in the claiming ranks. She’ll need the right trip to win, but should hit the board. (3) SHES MACHS DELIGHT has tailed off in her last three, but gets class relief tonight.

Race 6

(3) STONEBRIDGE FURY was a convincing winner last week at this same level. He’ll likely be the post time favorite and deserves to be. (4) ONE MORE GINNY gets post relief tonight at a much easier level. She’s getting better as the year goes on. (1) O U SEXY GUY doesn’t like to win, but always seems to be in the hunt. She’s a longshot play.

Race 7

The addition of Lasix seems to have really helped (10) ALLAMERICAN SWIFT. She is undefeated in her last two starts and with excellent gate speed; overcomes post 10. (1) KEYSTONE CASCADE has been a threat every time she lines up behind the gate this season. She’s got post one and shows terrific gate speed; expect her to be near the front. (6) GILLA DREAM can win on any given night, depending on trip. Post six suits her just fine as she always comes from off the pace.

Race 8

(6) MISTER BIG MONEY is very competitive at this level and I think he will be a top contender for new trainer Clayton Miller. (7) EAST MEADOW might be a bit of a stretch to have on my ticket, but he closed very well last week. I’m hoping for a repeat effort. (3) PASS THE DEUCE makes the move to the big track from Sudbury Downs and draws inside. His latest performance tells me he can go with this group.

Race 9

(4) REVIVAL ROCK posted a solid qualifier last week and I think she will only get better off that effort. O’Sullivan has a great reputation for getting first timers to the wire first. (5) MAKE SOME MEMORIES might be the post time favorite off last week’s performance given the fact that she got interfered with. (7) MOTHER DUECE is a hunch play, but Vanderkemp’s barn has been rolling lately. I’m going to take a shot.

Race 10

After watching (7) CHARMED LIFE’s past few starts, there’s no doubt she’s the horse to beat at this level. (6) SOUTHWIND CORNELL is a contender if he minds his manners. He’s got the speed to compete at this level. (1) MONEY MAVEN went a tough trip last week from post ten. She has been blessed with post one and has excellent gate speed.

Race 11

(7) ALIBI TERROR has been great for her new connections. I think she’ll be that much better in here. (1) KRISTINLEIGH will benefit from post one in this short field. She’s been solid her past two starts. (5) YUMMY SUSHI has the potential to upset the field. She’s been getting better with every start and has been knocking on the door in her last three.

Race 12

(8) HOMER JAY gets class relief once again as he sinks to the bottom condition. He’s got so much back class that you can’t overlook him. (4) THE PRINCIPLE is in the same boat as HOMER JAY with back class. He’s due for a win this year and it could come in here. (9) CHARMBO TIE was very good last start and with his gate speed, post none doesn’t bother me.
