Mohawk: Thursday 8/8 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 1

(5) ITS MAGIC TIME comes out of the Norman barn and qualified very well. If he behaves himself, he’s got a great chance. (8) THERESANDEMONINME is fresh off a victory and hasn’t missed the board in four starts. He’s versatile and will attract a lot of attention. (3) DRAMA FREE draws inside and if he minds his manners, he’s capable. He shows good final quarter speed.

Race 2

If (3) MASSACAIA can mind his manners, he looks like the horse to beat. He has the speed, comes from a top barn and shows versatility. (4) R CHOOCHOO CHARLIE draws well and has been racing at his best in his last two starts. He made a miscue last week and still regrouped to finish second. (8) STRIKE IT BIG won last week and comes from a high percentage trainer. He’ll likely race from behind and should offer a price.

Race 3

This race is wide-open, but (7) AMERICAN SUPERMAN comes out of the McNair barn and went a tough trip in his latest. He has the speed and will need a cleaner trip. (10) BLACKJACK SPUR scored a convincing victory last start and has the gate speed to overcome the outside post; gets Condren in the bike once again.   (9) TAURUS SEELSTER finished second last start and has terrific early speed to overcome post nine. Zeron once again will be at the helm, which is never a bad thing.

Race 4

(1) SOMEISLANDSOMWHERE draws the rail and qualified strong with a good final frame. He also comes out of Coleman’s barn, which will reduce his price. (7) PALM BEACH HANOVER comes out of Menary’s barn and has the speed to compete in this class. She’ll look for a better effort. (2) NOBLE JILLY draws inside and has been knocking on the door at this level. She shows good final-quarter speed and should benefit from the good post.

Race 5

(6) DEWEYKEEPUPNWHY went a very speedy mile at Georgian Downs in his latest and a repeat effort should make him a winner. He shows the quickest speed in this group. (4) TYRONE HAJI has finished second in both career starts and comes out of the McIntosh barn. He enjoys racing from behind and should benefit from the inside post. (3) MASSIVE TALENT comes from a top barn and should improve on the bigger oval. He might offer a price and I like his consistency to stay flat.

Race 6

(1) UTICA BAYAMA draws the rail and likely will attract a lot of attention. She got tired late in the stretch last week and I hope she races off a helmet in here. (3) LIFETIME JEWEL has terrific closing speed and gets post relief. She continues to offer a fair price and is a good option based on her recent performances. (6) HONI MAKER used a terrific final quarter to win last week. She moves up in class, but appears like she can handle the class jump.

Race 7

(3) HARPER BLUE CHIP was timed in 1:57 4/5 last start and that type of effort should be quick enough to win in here. He draws inside and comes from a top barn. (7) DEWEYS IN CONTROL finished second in his career debut last week and can only improve off that effort. He gets Condren once again, which is never a bad thing on a young trotter. (8) WARRAWEE PRO likely will offer a price and races at his best when he’s put in the race. I hope Waples does just that.

Race 8

(9) ZENOBIA BLUE CHIP qualified very well both times and comes from Menary’s barn. He’ll likely be the favorite and looks like he’s ready to drop significant time. (8) IMPATIENCE also won his qualifier in a good time. He comes from good connections and has gate speed. (4) HIDDEN LAND comes out of the Cass barn, which has been terrific in recent weeks. She’s very versatile and likely will offer price.

Race 9

(6) PASADENA STAR has won two straight, comes out of the McIntosh barn and appears to be the horse to beat. I admire both victories as he came from well off-the-pace. (3) CROWNINGCREST draws inside and was timed in 1:58 two starts ago. A repeat effort makes him a contender. (7) SCARY MAGIC comes out of the Norman barn and that’s the main reason for my selection. The horse moves onto this circuit, makes his career debut and may offer a price.

Race 10
(1) CANADIAN EDITION gets the rail, comes out of the McNair barn and displayed the speed last week to win in here. (3) ITALIAN REBEL comes from Menary’s barn and qualified very well last week. He draws well and appears to be versatile. (2) MARCO DE VIE will make his second career start. He qualified well and gets Zeron in the bike. He should provide a price.

Race 11
(4) NORTHERN IDOL has finished first and second in his last two starts. He appears to race at his best when he’s put in the race. (7) PASSED DAT POINT hasn’t missed the board in two starts and moves into Lalonde’s barn. He appears ready to drop even more time. (8) CORSAIR HALL raced very well last start and shows gate speed. He’ll have to overcome post eight, but is a very good option for the triactor.

Race 12
(8) INSTANT THRILL was the favorite last week and used a first-over attack to finish fourth. That wasn’t his best trip and will look for a cleaner journey. (4) WESTERN SENATOR gets Jamieson back in the bike, which is a plus. He draws inside and has terrific closing speed for this class. (3) ALLAMERICAN EXTRA draws well and drops in class. He’ll also add Lasix for the second straight week.
