Mohawk: Saturday 9/1 Full-Card Analysis

Race 1

(8) SECRETSOTHERNEPHER ran out of real estate in his most recent outing. His 26-flat final quarter speaks for itself in this same class. He races better from off-the-pace, while (9) ST LADS HE MAN is quite the opposite. If he comes home in :27-:28 like he usually does, not like his last start, then he's right there. (4) DOIN TIME TOGETHER is moving up in class from last week after finding the winner's circle. Trainer Shawn Robinson's barn has been hot lately, so don't count him out.

Race 2

This year's NA Cup winner, (5) THINKING OUT LOUD got everything his own way in Lexington to score a comfortable victory. Trainer McIntosh gave him some much needed time off and it appears this horse is benfiting from that. Look for off-the-pace tactics. (2) CLASSIC ROCK N ROLL has found a new gear in his last four starts including two consecutive victories. McNair will likely put him in the race early. (3) BETTOR AGAIN set a new lifetime best in his most recetnt outing, short field will play into his favour with his usual off-the-pace trip.

Race 3

(7) PUT ON A SHOW couldn't be coming into this race any better. Disregard her effort two starts back at The Meadowlands, Jody Jamieson took full credit for the mishap. If there is one horse that can beat her, I feel it's (8) REBEKA BAYAMA after her pair of recent victories. She's finding her best stride at the right time. (2) ANNDROVETTE will likely be the tempo-setter. Tetrick loves to make speed with her and draws a favourable post position.

Race 4

(7) WAASMULA gets some much needed class relief. Her :25.4 final quarter was just as impressive as her finishing fourth, beaten just two lengths, while back 12 lengths at the half. (2) VOELZ HANOVER got tired late in the mile last start after setting the pace. I chose her for second, over (1) CONTINUAL VELCOCITY, who scored a hard-fought victory to lower her speed badge. I think she can handle the move up in the class.

Race 5

(7) LITTLE BROWN FOX has been very consistent this season racing against the Grand Circuit colts. He should be the post time favourite and involved in the race from the get-go. (8) KNOWS NOTHING finished second after a first-over journey last start, while (5) PRESTIDIGITATOR got everything his own way on the front-end.

Race 6

Trainer David Menary said that (9) TARPON HANOVER was sick two starts ago and still scoped sick after his Metro elim. He's my top play in here given the fact that under the circumstances, he almost made the rich final. Keith Oliver gave (2) URBANITE HANOVER a great steer in his elimination, he's getting better with every start which makes him a big player. (1) EVENIN OF PLEASURE came home in :27- seconds last start, but was too far back. With post one assigned, I doubt that will happen again.

Race 7

Trainer Chris Ryder admits that (3) I LUV THE NITELIFE has been a pleasant surprise after her World Record victory last start. She's the horse to beat, but very beatable. Trainer Bob McIntosh put aluminum shoes on (9) PARLEE BEACH which was not favourable to her in her elimiantion. She could not grab the racetrack. She'll go back to steel and I wouldn't be surprised if she posted the victory. She has the potential to go sub 1:50 as well as a few others. (2) L DEES LIONESS will likely be put in the race early, but she'll need more than her regular :27.2 final-quarter to seal the deal.

Race 8

Jody Jamieson said that (3) APPRENTICE HANOVER tried pulling up not once, but twice in his 1:49.4 Metro elim because he was doing it so effortlessly. I expect both him and (4) CAPTAINTREACHEROUS to be 1-2 at the half and the battle will be on from there. I see it as a sprint home with (2) ODDS ON EQUULEUS coming from off-the-pace looking to pick them off late. John Campbell can only benefit from speedy fractions up front.

Race 9

(9) SILVER EAGLE won at this level a few starts ago and this is the perfect class for him. Anything higher, it appears he's only looking to hit the board. He's got great gate speed and/or off-the-pace tactics. (8) OK COMMANDER also gets class relief and easily could find the winner's circle at this level. Expect a low price on both he and SILVER EAGLE. (4) BESTINTHEBUSINESS has been very consistent this year and will offer value and draws much better than his last two starts.

Race 10

There isn't a horse in this race that can beat (4) GOLDEN RECEIVER off the gate in my opinion. He'll likely be the tempo-setter with (5)BETTERTHANCHEDDAR stalking in the pocket or close to it. If they go speedy fractions up front, which they likely will, the race could set up perfectly for (6) FOILED AGAIN who thrives from off-the-pace. Should he win this event, he will become the richest pacer of all time.

Race 11

(6) SPEED AGAIN got roughed up in the early going last start, but still paced home in :27-flat. He's at the same level again, which he can certainly handle. Fresh off a victory, (3) IDEAL MATTERS will now get the services of Tim Tetrick, which will be a factor into handicappers' wagering decision. (2) ONTHECLOCK HANOVER has won at a higher level four starts ago and can certainly find the winner's circle in this event.

Race 12

(3) ROCK THE WIND has been very inconsistent this year. He's bravened up with a win at Georgian Downs and faces a lower class than he usually does at Mohawk. ALL TIGER N (8) will likely use his gate-speed from the outside post. His last start is a good indication that he has the potential to hit the wire first in this class. (6) VIPER SELECT has been hitting the board at this level in his past few starts. There's no reason why that can't happen again.

Race 13

(3) IM FEELIN GOOD is a much better horse than he's showing. He has won at a much higher level and should be able to handle this field. (2) ANDERLECHT draws a favourable post this week, and with his patented :26-final quarters makes him a key player in this race. (10) JEPSON HANOVER loves to finish third (7 times this season).  He'll have his work cut out for him from the outside post.
