Mohawk: Saturday 8/31 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: SPARKY MARK (11th)

Spot Play: ROCKIN WIZARD (12th)

Race 1

(1) MONTE CRISTO gets the rail again and raced very well last week. He entered the Drury stable and raced much better compared to previous starts. (3) GRIN FOR MONEY didn't leave the gate the best last week and hopefully that changes in here. He's a quality horse and is much better than he's been showing. (6) PIECE OF THE ROCK is fresh off a win, gets Tetrick in the bike and will make his fifth start of the campaign.

Race 2

(8) E L ROCKET raced in the Hambletonian eliminations two starts ago and finished a good second in his most recent start. Gingras is back in the bike, which will only decrease his price. (1) LINDYS TRU GRIT gets the rail, is fresh off a victory and has a terrific record this season. (2) HIGH BRIDGE comes out of the Takter barn and will look for a rebound effort. His record speaks for itself this season.

Race 3

(6) SOMEWHERE IN L A came first-over last start and that wasn't his best trip. He comes from Hall of Fame connections and will likely offer a very low price. (5) SOMESIZESOMESTYLE comes out of the Burke barn and got an inside trip last week. He continues to improve with each start. (4) SURPRISE HANOVER used a :26 3/5 final quarter last week and should benefit from a shorter field. He'll likely offer a price.

Race 4

(5) CAMAES FELLOW has won two of his last three and most recently in a sizzling 1:48. That's hard to overlook especially with Gingras back in the bike. (7) SUNSHINE BEACH defeated Captaintreacherous for the first time this season in 1:47 4/5. He does face older horses, but benefits from an eight horse field. (6) UPFRONT HOOSIERBOY moves into the Johnson barn and has a terrific record this season, while exclusively in this class.

Race 5

(3) BEACH GAL caught a lot of people by surprise last week with her 1:50 3/5 elimination win. A repeat effort could be quick enough to win. (2) PRECOCIOUS BEAUTY has turned it up a notch in her last two starts and was the other elimination winner. I feel it's between these two for the win. (5) GALLIE BYTHE BEACH is regally-bred, comes from a top barn and has yet to miss the board this season. She's a very good option if you're playing the triactor.

Race 6

(3) WINNING DREAM draws inside and has won two of his last three. He'll look for a rebound effort with his sub-par effort last week. (4) TOP GEAR has a good record this season and should fare out very well in this class. (1) FIRE ON THE WATER enjoys being put in the race and he should get that from McNair. He draws inside and that only increases his chances and may provide a price.

Race 7

(3) WESTERN VINTAGE hasn't had his ear plugs pulled while Gingras has been in the bike. I feel he still has more left in the tank and likely will be your leader turning for home. (4) ARTHUR BLUE CHIP has only tasted defeat twice from seven starts this season and won his elimination. There's nothing not to like about him. (2) LETS DRINK ON IT was the final elimination winner and he draws post two. He's very versatile and all three horses will offer very low odds.

Race 8

(3) FRANKIES DRAGON comes out of a high percentage barn and was timed in 1:49 4/5 in his latest start. He closed very well after some time off and should be even better in here. (9) WARRAWEE NONSUCH will have to overcome post nine, but he has gate-speed and is fresh off a win close to this class. (10) TWIN B IMPRESSIVE comes out of the Moreau barn and that cannot be overlooked. He's got a good record this season and has gate-speed.

Race 9

(8) CREAMPUFF MACDADDY has won two straight and despite a post eight start, he has terrific gate-speed. He comes from good connections and I like that Waples returns to the bike. (2) DEADLIEST CATCH draws inside and is fresh off a 1:53 2/5 winning effort. He also enjoys being put in the race and should get that from post two. (7) YOUR SO VAIN raced in the Hambletonian eliminations and finished second on this circuit last week. He trotted home strong and that sets him up well in here.

Race 10

(4) CLEAR VISION likely paced the fastest final quarter in the history of Mohawk and he was only beat by a neck in 1:47 4/5. That was a remarkable mile despite not winning and he has gone two heroic trips in his last two starts.  (3) A ROCKNROLL DANCE has won two straight including a Canadian record in last week’s elimination. He might be the post time favourite and has found his 'A' game in recent weeks. (2) BOLT THE DUER was the other elim winner and he'll be forwardly-placed off the gate. There's nothing not to like about him with his record this season and latest efforts.

Race 11

(6) SPARKY MARK overcame post 10 last week to finish a strong second with a :25 3/5 final frame. He draws better and drops in class. (5) BETTOR AGAIN will make his third start of the season and he finished a solid second, by a head, last week timed in 1: 49 4/5. He can only improve in just his third start of the season. (4) ALEXIE MATTOSIE has found a better stride in recent weeks and has been knocking on the door. He's a good option for the triactor.

Race 12

(4) ROCKIN WIZARD did all the work on the front last week en route to victory. He caught me by surprise with his win and remains at the same class. (6) GENESEE is a horse that doesn't always necessarily win, but is always in the hunt at the end of the mile. Jamieson aboard makes me like him even more. (10) URBANITE HANOVER has hit the board in four of his last five starts and has terrific gate-speed. He's able to overcome post 10 and will provide a fair price.
