Mohawk: Saturday 7/6 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: DROP THE BALL (12th)

Spot Play: JULIANS CAESAR (1st)

Race 1

(7) JULIANS CAESAR drops in class after finishing fourth at a higher level. He shows enough trot and is looking for his first win of 2013. (6) MEADOWVIEW ARTY won in this class last week and is capable of another top effort. He'll likely once again be driven aggressively by Moiseyev. (8) MAJESTIC TAGLET won in this class two starts ago and returns to the same level. She's a good option to have on the triactor.

Race 2

(7) GUTSY GREG drops into a claimer where he has had a lot of success. He finished third against tougher horses last start and comes out of Moreau's barn. (6) SHIPPS XPECTANCY has terrific gate-speed and has won three straight. He's got a terrific record and comes from a good barn. (1) JAC SPADE is a good saver from the inside post.

Race 3

(6) WHEELING N DEALIN is last year's rookie champion and after three qualifiers, he appears ready. He'll get top honours from me until he faces defeat. (7) P L FIRECRACKER continues to improve this season and raced very well last week. I hope he's put into the race early like last start. (3) BRUCE THE BRAVE was timed in 1:53 1/5 last week and a repeat effort should be quick enough to hit the board. He draws well once again and will likely race from behind.

Race 4

(5) R GAUWITZ HANOVER is due for his first win of the season. He draws better and is a top threat. He was hard-used last week and still managed a good third. (2) JUNIOR K has been terrific in his last three starts and draws inside once again. He's paced a pair of sub-1:51 miles and that's hard to overlook for this class. (7) CAMS TUX was sensational last start winning in 1:49 3/5. I didn't think he was capable of that type of effort. It will be interesting to see how he fares out this week.

Race 5

(7) DAPPER DUDE cleared to the front then came under immediate pressure last week en route to victory. He can only be better in his second start and remains in this class. (6) MACH DREAMER drops in class and this level is much better suited for him. He's got a lot of back-class to him and he's definitely a player in this race. (9) MACH IT BIG also drops in class and will have to overcome post nine. He's got a great record this season and is very versatile.

Race 6

(7) FRANKIES DRAGON was an under-wraps winner last start and he'll likely be the top choice in here. I think he's the horse to beat. (6) THE LADIES MAN put in a sub-par effort in my opinion last week. He came first-over, but didn't make up the ground he's capable of. He's finished second in this Series' finals the past two years. (4) BESTINTHEBUSINESS has been aggressively-driven by Ouellette in his past two starts and has been finishing his miles off well. He's a good choice for the triactor.

Race 7

(2) APPOMATTOX comes from a top trotting barn in Antonacci and showed enough trot over The Meadowlands to be able to be quick enough to win in here. (3) DESIGNER GENES has been racing terrific in her last few starts. She closes very well and can't be overlooked in this field. (5) OUR MOJO is a 'must have' on the triactor. He doesn't like to win, but has hit the board in 12 of 17 starts this season.

Race 8

(5) MIA SEELSTER was my top pick last week at 51-1 and she finished second, by a neck. I'm going to try her again in this same class and hope Baillargeon steers her aggressively once again. (2) MISTY MOONSTONE draws inside and should be pushed forward off-the-gate. She races at her best that way. (7) LETS GO GET EM has hit the board in four of her last six starts. She went a tough trip last week and is looking for a rebound effort.

Race 9

(10) ANDERLECHT drops out of the Preferred and into a much easier class. Even with a post 10 start, he's a top horse in this race. I just hope he doesn't get away too far back. (5) TARPON HANOVER hasn't missed the board in four starts this season and has paced very credible miles. He's three-years-old facing older horses, but it's hard to overlook his recent efforts. (7) TWIN B IMPRESSIVE has a good record this season and was timed in 1:49 4/5 last week. That type of effort should be quick enough to finish top three.

Race 10

(8) PISTON BROKE qualified twice very well and appears ready at first asking in 2013. He had a terrific season last year and faces a field that he's capable of defeating. (3) CHEYENNE MOISHE draws inside and can race near the front or off-the-pace. He also drops in class and comes out of Montini's barn. (5) IDEAL RACE has a lot of back-class to him and drops in class. He'll need a trip, but a good option for the triactor.

Race 11

(8) STONEBRIDGE ON ICE drops to the bottom class and has five wins this season. I hope he's pushed off-the-gate by Saftic. (4) GABLE BLUE CHIP comes out of Moreau's barn and should provide a price. He's been slowly progressing forward. (2) MONTE CRISTO draws inside and raced very well from off-the-pace. If he's not too far back, I like his chances.

Race 12

(4) DROP THE BALL is a millionaire and is fresh off a win. She moves into the O'Sullivan barn in preparation for the Roses Are Red on July 20. (6) SHELLISCAPE will make her fourth start of the season and gets Waples back in the bike. She'll need a trip in here. (2) FARMERS TUITION was pressed hard in the second quarter last week and that didn't result in a good finish. She's got a good record this season and won in this class just three starts ago.

Race 13

(1) VALIDUS DEO draws inside, comes out of Alagna's barn and has been very good in his last three starts. He'll likely be the favourite in here. (3) BROCKS FORTUNE has hit the board in five of eight starts this season and draws inside. He has the speed and Austin's barn has been terrific in 2013. (7) REGAL HOPE has been top three in each of his last two starts. He'll have to step up his game and should provide a fair price.
