Mohawk: Saturday 6/8 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four

Best Bet (4 - 8 / $12.00): VEGAS VACATION

Race 1

(2) HAMDALLA gets Miller in the bike and is fresh off a 1:54 4/5 winning effort in his latest. He draws inside in a short field and Rekila’s barn has been terrific this season. (3) ROLLS BLUE CHIP draws inside and might offer a price considering he hasn’t raced yet in 2013. He qualified three times and the connections think highly of him. (5) DENVER has a terrific record this season and hasn’t missed the board in four starts. He’s very capable and very versatile.

Race 2

(7) CAVEAT EMPTOR draws outside in this short field, but scored a very impressive win in his only start of the season. He can only improve off that effort. (1) ROSSINI draws inside and has hit the board in five of seven starts. He enjoys being put into the race and post one only increases his chances. (4) BREWMASTER is the most experienced horse in the field so far this season. He’s a good option for second or third, but I’m not confident he can win. He should offer a price.

Race 3

It’s hard to go against (5) CAPTAINTREACHEROUS. He was last year’s champion and was an easy winner in his lone start of the season. Expect him to be the favorite. (6) SUNSHINE BEACH made a big statement in his ‘Beach’ division win. He was third-over and used a :26 1/5 final frame to seal the victory. He continues to improve with each start. (3) EVENIN OF PLEASURE was timed in 1:49 last week and that should be quick enough for him to hit the board. He draws inside and will face his toughest group this season.

Race 4

(9) ASTOR won last week in sub-1:50 fashion. He draws outside and can be inconsistent, but he was very impressive last week and I find it hard to go against him. (8) ANDERLECHT found the winner’s circle in this class last week and remains a top threat. He has a good record this season, but lately has been trip dependant. (5) TRANSCENDING comes out of the Burke barn and gets Gingras in the bike. He ships over from Pennsylvania and is a part of my triactor based on his connections.

Race 5

(6) ROSE RUN LIMO is my longshot play of the night. He’s only had four starts this season and recently qualified. He’s a much better horse than he’s been showing and I’m hoping the time off will translate into a winning effort. Perhaps if (10) BRUCE THE BRAVE drew inside he may have been my top pick. He came off-the-pace last week to finish second after going off as the favorite. He’ll need a trip from the outside post with his lack of gate-speed. (7) ALL CANTAB should be able to get involved for at least a share.

Race 6

(6) I LUV THE NITELIFE finished third in her latest start, but was timed in 1:49. That type of mile will be quick enough to win this dash. (9) LOVE CANAL got a terrific trip last start in the SBOA Final and cruised to victory. She faces tougher competition, but I still feel she’s capable of stepping up. (8) WHERETHEGIRLSARE is regally-bred and is fresh off a win. She continues to improve with each start and it appears she’s beginning to come into her own.

Race 7

(4) ROCKIN AMADEUS is a perfect two-for-two this season and fresh off a New Jersey Sires Stakes win. He couldn’t be coming into this race any better for Takter and Gingras. (5) WAKE UP PETER went a tough first-over trip in the same race and was only beaten a length for the win. He’s certainly a threat and put forth a terrific effort compared to the week before. (6) SWEET TALKIN SATIN was tremendous last week in his ‘Beach’ division. He caught a lot of horseplayers off guard with his second place finish, timed in 1:48 4/5. Don’t expect to see the same price.

Race 8

(3) AUTUMN GOTTEM won in this class two starts ago and may provide a price. This was a tough race to predict, but he draws inside again, has a good record and comes out of the O’Sullivan barn. (4) WARRAWEE NONSUCH drew outside last week and was a hard-closing fifth. He was only beaten three lengths for the win, using a :27 1/5 final quarter. (8) TWIN B IMPRESSIVE tends to be inconsistent, but he comes out of Moreau’s barn and was timed in 1:49 2/5 just two starts ago. Any type of repeat effort and he’s a major player.

Race 9

(1) VEGAS VACATION set a new Somebeachsomewhere Stakes record last week in 1:48 3/5. He’s undefeated in three starts this season and couldn’t be coming into this race any better. (4) ODDS ON EQUULEUS put in a sub-par effort in his latest. He’s a much better horse than that and the connections have made a shoeing change on him. I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and look for a rebound effort. (2) JOHNY ROCK draws inside and hasn’t missed the board yet this season. He was only beaten a neck for the win last week and is in top form right now.

Race 10

(1) IDEAL RACE drops out of the Preferred level and into this class. He comes out of the Gillis barn, gets Jamieson and was a winner two starts ago. (8) DRAIN DADDY has been knocking on the door at this level and once again is a top threat. He shows enough speed, has a good record and closes home very strong. (5) DONAU drops in class and I believe he’s capable in here. He draws well and when classified accordingly, he’s always in the hunt.

Race 11

(4) BIGTIME BALL finished second, by a neck, in 1:48 4/5 in his first start of the campaign. That’s a big statement from him and he can only improve off that effort this week. (3) CAMAES FELLOW set a world record in his latest start, but I’m going to pick against him. He comes from North America’s top barn, has won two straight and may be the favorite. (1) OK COMMANDER defeated BIGTIME BALL in his latest and races the best when he’s on the front. He draws the rail and will likely use that to his advantage.

Race 12

(3) SECRET WEAPON did all the work on the front last week in London en route to finishing third. He’s the veteran of this class with a lot of back-class. (1) WEB CAM draws inside and drops in class. He’ll likely provide a price and will need a trip. (2) GENERAL MANAGER gets Tetrick in the bike and that’s the main reason for my selection. He draws inside, has a good record this season and will need to step up in this class.

Race 13

(6) HARE CRAFT drops in class and should be better in his fourth start of the season. He shows enough speed, but is at his best when he races from behind. (3) AMAZON ART draws much better than last week and finishes his miles very strong. Zeron will be able to dictate the correct trip from post three. (2) LIFEIMITTATESART draws inside and shows enough speed. He’s a better horse than he’s been showing and likely will provide a price. This was a fairly tough race to predict.
