Spot Play: ALONE IN SPADES (6th)

Race 1

(1) MONEY MAVEN trotted home powerfully last week first time with Jamieson at the controls. He moves inside and returns in a week this time; top call. (8) CASH FOR GOLD showed great improvement when a strong second to a winner that was dropping in class; he’s dangerous. (2) MARKET RALLY hasn’t been pushed very hard yet this year. With two tighteners in and moving to the inside, that likely changes tonight.

Race 2

(4) INTIMIDATE wasn’t asked for much until the stretch last week in his 6-year-old debut, but he was powering up late. He should be much better this week. (2) DAYLON MAGICIAN stole an easy first 1/2 and was gone; he may get an early challenge here from the far outside. (5) FLANAGAN MEMORY flashed a 27 flat then 26 flat last 1/4 in his two qualifiers. He can threaten right away here.

Race 3

(1) PRESCOTTS HOPE improved a bit last week when claimed. Perhaps trainer Brealey can wake him up in this spot. (2) LIKEAVIRGIN comes in from Northville Downs sporting three monster wins when heavily bet. He will be swinging on the engine for as far as he can last. (3) PAIN IN THE GLASS also ships in with improving form and Henry drives for his nephew here. He’s in with a shot.

Race 4

(6) RAFA is from a dam that has produced 5 winners from 5 starters including local mare Putmeintogo, who took a mark of 1:51 1/5 last year. This one flew home in her qualifier on May 29 and looks all systems go. (9) DEES ROCKETMAN drops out of New York Sires Stakes and is the one to beat, but has also already had 12 chances without converting. (1) WINDSONG LEOPOLD is by a hot local sire out of a dam that has been a decent producer. It wouldn’t take a ton of improvement to share here in his debut.

Race 5

(3) CATCH THE DREAM couldn’t gain into a quickening pace in the top class last week, but he gets to drop into a field in which he should be a main contender; top call. (9) SLIP INTO GLIDE has a similar scenario to the choice and likely gets sent early here. (2) BURNIN MONEY has done anything but the past two weeks, clicking twice at square prices. His good recent form should be respected.

Race 6

(2) ALONEINSPADES tipped his hand in his latest vs. better and should be much more aggressively driven here. (8) MYSTICAL JET had a tightener and now switches to a top catch-driver; using. (3) DESERONTO greatly improved his overall speed when taking a new life’s mark at Flamboro last week. He is dangerous.

Race 7

(7) I SCOOT SAM left hard and closed fast again down the lane. He is much sharper with Lasix and can take this to close out the early pick 4. (9) IDEAL SHADOW closed like a rocket off excess cover to just miss; using at a square price. (10) TWOMICKEYTRIP dropped and popped off a month break. Hard to say how things will go for him from the 10-hole this week.

Race 8

(3) WINDSONG GEANT was out the route last time chasing a tough winner. He will likely get a better trip here moving inside and this is a group he can handle. (6) STRONG HOPE was bottled up for most of the stretch last week, but came quickly once free almost nailing the winner late. These are tougher, but with his improving form he could do at a price (5) HLDONTGHTTOYURDRMS put up some honest splits and was only passed late by one who was taking his second straight win. He is another contender here.

Race 9

(4) GENESEE has been displaying improving form the past two starts and survived a nightmarish trip last week to still finish third. He should win one soon; maybe tonight? (6) INTENDED STYLE is the obvious one to chase down and should be used on late pick 4 tickets. (5) RAVE ON is 0 for 11 this year after winning 10 times last year. His form is also improving though and he could break through here.

Race 10

(7) SOUTHWIND AMAZON went a huge mile uncovered from the 8-hole to win going away at Sarnia first time out of conditioner Adams’ barn. Don’t sell this one short despite the class rise. (10) FRIDAYNIGHTFLIGHT gets class relief here and has some upset potential. (3) WHOSURPAL had some pretty good ones behind him last time out at London and fits here. (1) BOOMBOOM BALLYKEEL didn’t show much from an outer post in the same race as the one above but should get a good trip here from the inside. (2) JM JET SET is another to consider in a pick 4 leg that requires wide coverage.
