McWicked posted a 1:48 3/5 winning mile and will be able to pick his post in the $1 million North America Cup final.

Trainer Casie Coleman has shed a lot of weight but she remains a big player in the three-year-old pacing division. McWicked, conditioned by Coleman, paced to a powerhouse 1:48 3/5 mile in capturing the fastest of three $50,000 eliminations to the $1 million (June 14) North America Cup at Mohawk on Saturday night.

With odds-on favorite Always B Miki making a miscue into the first turn, there was plenty of action in this division. Longshots Capital Account and Ideal Cowboy exchanged the lead through early fractions of :26 4/5 and :54 3/5 before McWicked, with driver David Miller, made a move to the front. Once on top, Let’s Drink On It and Tyler Smith blew by with an explosion of speed and took the field to the three quarters in 1:21 2/5.

With Sometimes Said overtaking the leader in the stretch, Miller was able to slide out and clear with McWicked. The son of McArdle, purchased for $210,000 from last fall’s Harrisburg Mixed Sale, responded to win decisively as the 7-2 choice. Sometimes Said was clear for second with Let’s Drink On It making the final in third.

“I didn’t expect a (1):48 mile,” said Coleman following the race. “He’s a real sweetheart; you can do anything you want with him.”

Lyonssomewhere got his first test of stakes competition and remained unbeaten, winning the first of the three divisions for driver Corey Callahan. The son of Somebeachsomewhere was able to clear the lead quickly from post six and then gained a perfect trip behind 1-2 favorite JK Endofanera.

Driver Brian Sears regained the front with the favorite into the first turn and cut relatively soft fractions of :27 4/5, :56 3/5 and 1:24, setting up a final quarter sprint that he expected to control. That didn’t prove to be the case as JK Endofanera had steering problem in mid-stretch and began to bear out badly. That opened the door for Callahan and he eagerly fitted the Jimmy Takter-trained colt through to a 1:50 1/5 mile.

Longshot Beat The Drum gained room inside for second with JK Endofanera finishing third. Western Vintage had to grind without cover and finished fourth.

“I was concerned about David’s horse (Limelight Beach) leaving but I wanted to be there behind Brian,” said Callahan. “I think he’s got a big future.

Sent off at 7-2, it was the third straight three-year-old victory for the colt.

Takter sent out Tellitlikeitis to a sharp 1:48 4/5 victory in the final $50,000 North America Cup elimination, putting two into the final. Driver Brett Miller was first to the front with the son of Well Said and yielded to Luck Be Withyou before the quarter. Eventually shuffled to third with 3-5 favorite He’s Watching gaining the front, Miller was content to sit.

After fractions of :54 2/5 and 1:21 4/5, He’s Watching found company in Luck Be Withyou and Tellitlikeitis. The latter exploded to roll by as the 4-1 choice in the seven-horse field.

“The colt has tremendous speed,” said Brett Miller following the victory. “I’m happy I got the drive.”

Joining the top three (by the luck of the draw) as the fourth-place finisher to make the final was Ideal Cowboy.

Fan Hanover Eliminations

Breeders Crown winner Uffizi Hanover won for the first time this year in one of two Fan Hanover eliminations for sophomore filly pacers. David Miller guided her to a 1:51 4/5 mile.

The second Fan Hanover saw Table Talk sweep the field from last for driver Jim Marohn Jr. at 35-1 odds. Heavy favorite Precocious Beauty faded in the stretch and failed to reach the final.

The finalists for the Fan Hanover are: Uffizi Hanover (PP2), Beach Gal (PP10), Nat A Virgin (PP1), Fancy Desire (PP7), Take That Hanover (PP4), Table Talk (PP3), Major Dancer (PP9), Mamas Fallen Angel (PP6), Rock N Roll Xample (PP8), and Bahama Blue (PP5).

Roses Are Red Eliminations

Anndrovette, driven quite coolly by Tim Tetrick, angled out late and rolled past longshot Summertime Lea to capture a $35,000 elimination for the Roses Are Red in 1:49 3/5 as the 4-5 pubic choice.

Somwherovrarainbow got rolled over by Yagonnakissmeornot in the second Roses Are Red elimination. Ron Pierce was able to slowly work his way up on the outside as Somwherovrarainbow with Brian Sears set comfortable fractions. The two dueled through a :26 1/5 final quarter with Yagonnakissmeornot scoring in a career best 1:50 1/5 mile.

The field for the Roses Are Red final stacks up as follows: Anndrovette, Summertime Lea, Shelliscape, Shebestingin, Charisma Hanover, Yagonnakissmeornot, Somwherovrarainbow, Krispy Apple, Camille, and Rocklamation.
