Mohawk: Horses to watch for August 23 - August 27

Thursday, August 23

JUKEBOX JACKIE (NW1/3YO) Trailed all but the breakers to the lane, angled out, finished fast.

FRISKY STRIKE (OntSS) Left well, tucked, sat to the lane, tipped, closed well chasing the favorite to the wire.

HIGHLAND DANCER (CLMHCP10/15000FM) Got shuffled along the way, had to clear through traffic in the lane, found an inside route with good finish but it was a bit too late.

TO PERFECTION (NW2) Was parked to the lead a long way, set a pressed pace, faltered in the late stages and could be better in next if not roughed up as much.

Friday, August 24

COOL VICTORY (2YO) Left and was bothered turn one, took back, rerallied, gained control by the half, set a pressed pace and dug in gamely warding off all but the favorite. Given any kind of luck, the winner's circle awaits.

GO GO RED MARTY (NW5000) Crushed with big 6-lenghth win in last and can step up for another.

CHAMPAGNE PHIL (2YO) Had too far to come in last but finished with a sharp :26.4 last panel and has to be considered a threat against most of this kind.

WASMULA (OPENFM) Sat in with good rally up the cones and through traffic. She won't be 90-1 in next because a :25.4 last panel has to be respected.

Saturday, August 25

I LUV THE NITELIFE (GREATLADY) She won her elimination with plenty left and should be tough to beat next week.

IDEAL CHOICE (PRF2) Had the pocket but nowhere to go until the last steps. Finally cleared but had lost his best shot.

VEGAS VACATION (METRO) Second favorite sat to the lane, tipped, closed strongly but got moving too late to threaten the favored winner.

CONTINUAL VELOCITY (NW13000FM) Was roughed up in last. Got looped and parked grabbing the lead from a stubborn pacesetter, faced late pressure and dug in very game to earn the win.

Monday, August 27

LIFEIMITTATESART (NW2) Closed a ton but was so far back, he needed a ton and a half. Beaten favorite need only get involved sometime before the stretch.

VETO HANOVER (NW2) Made a game bid in last coming uncovered. Challenged to the stretch, took the lead late and dug in but the favorite just would not go away and nailed him on the wire.

CELEBRITY HANOVER (NW23500) Got parked, rated on the rim uncovered, stepped it up a bit to the third panel but tired. Some cover might be all that is needed.

TALL COTTON (NW23500) Left wide in cavalry charge to first turn, took up, took back, tucked, sat in and flattened in the lane. Facing weaker, the leave gains the top and the end result could be improved.
