Mohawk: Friday 9/7 Analysis

Best Bet: Corky (4th); Spot Play: Dreamfair Eternal (9th)

Race 1

(6) EXQUISITE ALBERTA will debut for her new connections, but remains at the same class level. Her excellent win percentage this season is a key factor. (7) GOODBADANDDEUGLY is at a class level where she can win. She’s raced competitively at a much higher level and has the richest earnings this season. (5) GRACIE MONTANA has been off her game in her last two, but she has a high percentage trainer and driver.

Race 2

(3) APERFECTYANKEE is the horse to beat in my opinion. He’s the fastest 2YO in this field with a great record. (7) BLUTO is my upset pick as Takter always has his young horses on their game. He’s another horse with a great record so far this season. (2) CREAMPUFF MACDADDY likes to be near the front and I expect the same tactics from post two. I don’t expect a big triactor payout.

Race 3

This race is wide-open in my opinion, but I went with (7) SOUTHWIND TERROR. He went an excellent first start last week with a hard-closing final quarter from post 10. He’ll likely be the post-time favorite. (4) NICKLE BAG has been getting better with every start and draws a favorable post. (5) FINNISH FIRST hasn’t been overly impressive so far this season, but has progressed quite well.

Race 4

(6) CORKY couldn’t be coming into this event any better. There’s no trotting specialist better than Jimmy Takter. (7) WHEELING N DEALIN hasn’t been defeated yet this season and this event is a terrific task for him. He could certainly win. I wasn’t overly impressed with (3) MURMUR HANOVER’s effort last start. Perhaps he had an excuse and will look to rebound.

Race 5

This race wasn’t easy to handicap, but I went with (3) PHONE TERROR. Terrific win percentage this season with top connections. (8) BOUND TO ROCK has a start under her belt after a pair of qualifiers and I expect her to be even better this start. (2) ROCK ANN ROLLING got into traffic trouble in her last start and just got beat. She’s definitely a player.

Race 6

(10) SWEET TALKIN SATIN was simply spectacular in his last start from post nine. He comes off a terrific final quarter to win the race after being off 10 lengths at the half. (3) JUST HENRY was just the opposite by cutting the mile to win. I expect the same type of steer given a post three start. (4) COCOMARA also found the winners circle in his last start. Don’t count him out.

Race 7

This was the toughest race to handicap on the card in my opinion. (10) ST LADS PEEPER gets much needed class relief. She draws post ten, but shows excellent gate speed. If she’s near the front, she’s a threat. (4) LIVE TO DREAM is coming off a win and has won two of her last four. It appears she’s rounding into form. (3) WHIRLWIND also drops down in class. She’s the richest horse in the field this season.

Race 8

(7) BURNIN MONEY appears to be rounding into form after having the summer off. He’s got a win under his belt and he’s fresh. He’s a top contender. (9) WHIPLASH drops down in class and enjoys racing off a helmet. Post nine doesn’t bother me. (2) PERFECT VACATION is a classy veteran who can certainly upset at this level for WEG’s leading trainer Richard Moreau.

Race 9

(5) DREAMFAIR ETERNAL hasn’t been on her game this season, but she gets some much needed class relief. She’ll likely offer minimal value. (3) APOGEE HANOVER will face older mares in this contest, but I’m confident she’s up for the challenge. She’s been getting better as the year has gone on. If (9) VOELZ HANOVER uses her gate speed then she’s a contender in this event. I can’t see Baillargeon taking back off the gate.

Race 10

(8) MR CHICAGO will likely be the post time favorite. Tony Alagna has had an excellent season to date and I expect this horse to be in top form. (9) CANT HAVE MY MONI had a first over journey in her last start. If she can get a cleaner trip, she’s a player. (3) GHIRARDELLI LINDY has won at this level before and has been knocking on the door in his most recent outings. If he behaves himself, he’ll be right there.

Race 11

(4) OLE MISS was very impressive last week despite finishing fourth. Posted an excellent final quarter after being back 12 lengths at the half. (2) RED SHADOW has been on her game lately, especially in her last three starts. O’Sullivan’s barn has been hot lately with an outstanding month of August. (8) WARRAWEE LIMELIGHT gets major class relief in this field. You have to admire her record this season. Don’t overlook her!

Race 12

Wide open race, but I chose (3) TANNED FOR LIFE. Beaten less than two lengths at this level last start and draws much better. Jamieson will drive her again, which never hurts. (1) KEYSTONE JUBILEE gets post one again and has been very competitive at this level. (9) CARDS THAT COUNT is certainly due for a win. Can she? I don’t think so, but she can hit the board.
