Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: FATHER PATRICK

Spot Play: CHOIR ROBE

Race 1
(10) FATHER PATRICK has won four straight and lowered the Champlain Stakes record in his latest. That effort was just two-fifths off the world record set by Muscle Hill. (3) CREDIT FASHION draws inside and comes from top connections. He enjoys leaving the gate and has a good record this season. (7) RAISE THE CURTAIN dropped multiple seconds in his latest and should provide a price. He’s a longshot, but I think he can step up.

Race 2

(8) LEGAL PROCESS is due for her first win this season. She’s yet to miss the board and has finished second in each of her last three starts. (6) CAMS DALI has finished third in each start this season. She comes out of the O’Sullivan barn and has the speed to be very competitive at this level. (4) CATALEA SEELSTER draws inside and comes out of a high percentage barn. She’ll provide a price and a short field only increases her chances.

Race 3

(3) HARPER BLUE CHIP won the Champlain last start and comes out of the Steacy barn. He’s very versatile and scored an open-length victory in his latest. (2) DAMFOOLRMILLIONAIR draws inside and comes from a top trotting barn. He’s been racing very well in his last two starts and is a half brother to the great San Pail. (9) MASSACAIA was the favorite last week, but got defeated. He’ll have to overcome post nine, but has terrific gate speed and comes out of Moreau’s barn.

Race 4

(2) DAPPER DENZIL draws inside and raced terrific last week off the claim. He does move up in class, but I think he can handle the jump. (4) DUKE DID IT has been racing at his best in the past few weeks. He draws well again and remains at this same level. (7) GUTSY GREG got a great trip last week to finish second. He’s classified accordingly once again and gets the Filion/Moreau combination.

Race 5

(2) CHOIR ROBE draws inside and faces an easier group than she’s been facing. She has gate speed and will look for her first win of 2012. (10) OUR MOJO has a terrific on-the-board record this season. He will have to overcome post 10, but has excellent early speed. (7) MONEY MAVEN finished third in this class last week with a 27-second final frame. He should provide a price.

Race 6

(2) SHADIOS draws inside and comes out of the Alagna barn. He did all the work on the front last week before getting picked off late.  He’ll likely be the favorite. (3) VIRGINIAONTHEBEACH raced well in his career debut and dropped multiple seconds. He should be even better this week with that experience. (1) MITTCENT VAN GOGH gets the rail and paced in 1:54 4/5 last week. He continues to improve.

Race 7

(9) DOCS HOSS comes out of the Fillies & Mares Preferred and into this class. She’s my pick based on the class drop. (7) THALL BE FRANNY gets post relief and finished second in this class last week. She should be closer to the pace and benefit from a better trip. (2) PUTNAM PACKENZIE draws inside and finished second in this class last week. She hasn’t missed the board in her last four starts.

Race 8

(7) MONKEY ON MY WHEEL did all the work on the front last week before getting picked off late. I think she’ll race from behind this time and the fractions likely will be more honest. (10) VOELZ HANOVER won last week, but will have to overcome post 10. She has terrific gate speed and comes out of the Johnson barn. (6) GREYSTONE LADYLIKE had some time off and posted a good qualifier. She has a tremendous late kick and may offer a fair price.

Race 9

(8) PLANET EARTH moves into the Johnson barn and that’s the only reason for my selection. He’s a high percentage trainer and very capable with first time starters. (2) FEISTY LOVE draws inside and gets class relief. He should be closer to the front and likely will offer a price. (7) OAKLEA UPTOWN comes out of Walker’s barn, which has been terrific in 2013. This horse will likely need a trip, but will provide a high price.

Race 10

(5) THATS MY OPINION was a $350K yearling purchase and won last week. He does move up in class, but should be able to handle this group. (8) MARCO DE VIE raced in the Metro elims. He’s a top contender, but doesn’t show the best gate speed. (2) SWISS BANK HANOVER gets post two and has displayed the speed required for this class. He’s a good option for the triactor.

Race 11

(7) PERTTY MUSIC comes out of the McNair barn and faces an easier group in here. She has the speed and likely will be put into the race. (4) NOTALKINGBACK draws well and has a good record this season. She made an uncharacteristic break last start and will look to rebound. (6) MARQUISE DE SARAH also made a break last week and will try to rebound. She has been racing very well this season and is a good option in this class.

Race 12

(1) HOPE FOR PADDY gets major post and class relief. She gets post one and Davis, Jr. can dictate the trip. (4) ADAYMER SEELSTER is very versatile and is a good option at this level. She has some class and finished off her mile very strong last week. (3) ON THE CUSP finished third, by a neck, at this level last week. She draws well again and is a much better mare than she’s been showing.
