Mohawk: Friday 9/5 Analysis

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: HABITAT (2nd)

Spot Play: BRUSHSTROKES (10th)

Race 1

(1) BETTORHAVEANOTHER has a terrific record early in his career and made a big step last week with his first appearance over the Mohawk surface. (2) COWGIRL TOUGH has been much better in her last two starts for trainer/driver Jack Moiseyev. (7) BUSINESS AS USUAL started the season off very well and will look to get back on form following a pair of miscues for trainer Casie Coleman.

Race 2

(5) HABITAT has a winning record this season from five starts with three wins and one second-place finish for trainer Ron Burke. (6) UNCLE LASSE gets my call for second after much debate with the top choice. (1) DONT RUSH has certainly earned his spot in this Wellwood elimination after finishing a game second in the Champlain Stakes division last week and being a main threat in the provincial Sire Stakes.

Race 3

(6) SOUTHWIND STRYKER is a horse that has some steady improvement in each of his three career starts and is very capable of a big effort and winning this dash at a price. (4) CRUZADO DELA NOCHE has won back-to-back scores for trainer Nancy Johansson. (5) ALDEBARAN EAGLE is winless from five starts this season, but has hit the board in four of them.

Race 4

(7) DREAMFAIR ECLIPSE disappointed last week in this class as the Camluck mare was positioned too far back turning for home and couldn't make up ground. (1) RUB N TUG is a back-class mare that has many credentials to win this race except she doesn't like to win races this season as her one-for-29 record suggests. (5) FOOLISH MIND drops in class and that's the main reason for my selection.

Race 5

(2) MAGIC FEELING began this season as a top sophomore filly in the province, but hasn't step foot on the racetrack following her break in stride in the SBAO final as the favorite. (10) EXQUISITE GLIDE shows 1:53 and 1:54 speed earlier this summer at The Meadowlands, therefore will draw a lot of attention again this week. (4) SHEER FLEX drops out of the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series and moves onto this circuit for trainer Marie Ortolan Bar.

Race 6

(7) REBEKA BAYAMA is the queen of back class in this field with over $700K to her credit and is fresh off an open length score in 1:50 2/5 at a lower level last week. (9) ITS NO SECRET raced in the Fillies & Mares Preferred last week and drops in class for trainer Shawn Robinson and driver Jody Jamieson. (4) RADAR CONTACT raced very impressively two starts back in this class with a :26 1/5 final quarter to finish fourth.

Race 7

(6) MINESTRE HANOVER draws in the middle of the gate and will look for a bounce-back effort from last week. (7) SUMMONS has also been a main threat in this class in the past and is fresh off a win at Georgian Downs in 1:54 by open lengths. (9) THINKBEFOREUSPEAK has hit the board in each of his last two starts and four of his last five.

Race 8

(1) VOELZ HANOVER has excellent gate speed and has been blessed with the rail in this top class. (2) FERRARI SENA has hit the board in three of her last four starts and was a game second last week in this class. (4) AUNT CAROLINE was my top selection last week for this class based on her class relief and move onto this circuit from trainer Frank Antonacci.

Race 9

(3) LADY DYNAMITE has just one win from 15 starts this season, but it came two back on this circuit for trainer Robbie McMillan and driver Jonathan Drury. (1) SEE THE WIND draws the rail for trainer Chris Beaver and this 'Dewey' colt will need to be better this week. (7) EXEMPLAR was an impressive winner in this class in his first start of the season three starts back, but since then hasn't been at his best.

Race 10

(7) BRUSHSTROKES offers some upset potential and is worth a look if the price is right. (4) BACK YARD BABY was a game second last week for trainer John Curran and driver Jody Jamieson as the pacing miss raced very well with a :27 final frame to miss only by a neck. (8) MARINADE HANOVER has offered a low price in her two starts in this class prior to her layoff.

Race 11

(1) ODDS ON CYGNUS draws the rail on this occasion and was a winner last week in this class. (4) ST LADS PENNY LANE will make her fourth start of the season for trainer Larry Hall. The five-year-old has hit the board on two occasions this season, including a win two back and a third-place finish last week in this class. (6) MISS DOLLAR MAM was claimed by Auciello on Aug.10 and has a first and second-place finish in both starts for the veteran trainer.

Race 12

(3) MACHNBYRD PRINCESS was the favorite last week in this bottom class and failed to get the job done. (2) HUSTLEONHOME has terrific gate speed and draws an inside post this week that will likely be taken advantage of by driver Doug McNair. (1) SIR LBS Z TAM offered a low price last week and failed to click for trainer Marcel Barrieau. The Bettors Delight miss is very versatile, gets Mike Saftic back in the bike and once again poses as a main threat in this class.
