Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four

Best Bet (4 - 8 / $12.00): MAVEN

Spot Play: CHARLIE IS A JOKER

Race 1

(2) CHARLIE IS A JOKER is fresh off a win and comes into the bottom class on this circuit. He comes out of Henriksen’s barn and has won at a higher level in the past. (4) PROTEGE SEELSTER qualified well and is always a threat at this bottom level. He’s got back-class, draws well and is a contender if he minds his manners. (6) GROOM HANOVER is a very inconsistent horse, but he drops in class and gets Tetrick in the bike. That’s a major reason for my selection.

Race 2

(4) TO DREAM ON was doubled-up in her only start of the season, which caused her to break. I’m going to overlook that and put her on top. (2) BEE A MAGICIAN is the only other major player in this race, in my opinion. She’s undefeated this season and might be the slight favorite. An obvious exactor among horse players would be 4-2 or 2-4. (5) PRINCESS LILLY enjoys racing from off-the-pace and a short field only helps her chances. She hasn’t missed the board yet this season and shows enough speed.

Race 3

(7) SHARED PAST hasn’t lost yet in two starts this season and couldn’t be coming into this elimination any better. She’s been hard-used to earn the front in both starts and is certainly a top filly. (6) HANDOVER BELLE scored a victory in her first start of the season last week. She’ll have to improve and drop time, but she’s going in the right direction and can only be better in her second outing. (5) ANGIES LUCKY STAR comes from a top barn and is very capable of being a part of the triactor. She’s very versatile and hasn’t missed the board this season.

Race 4

(4) GRAPHENE raced against much tougher competition in the New Jersey Sires Stakes and returns back to this circuit. She scored a victory two starts ago, draws well in here and is a top threat. (1) HERESTOJESSICA draws inside and has excellent gate-speed. She finished second, only by a head, in this class last week. (5) RACHEL WELCH is very versatile and hit the board last week in this class. She has the talent to be competitive in here, but will need a trip.

Race 5

(5) SET ME UP converted off a pocket trip last week to score the win and returns to the same level. She draws the same post and has only tasted defeat once this year from four starts. (7) IN THE WHEELHOUSE moves back onto this circuit after a third-place effort at Western Fair. That was a speedy mile considering it’s a half mile track and I think this filly is on the right path. (3) POSEY TINA draws inside and gets Miller in the bike. That’s a big plus, which will lower her price.

Race 6

(8) UNEFOISDANSMAVIE scored the win in her most recent start in a fast time by seven lengths. She faces tougher competition in here, but she comes out of Burke’s barn and is ready to step up. (7) ONE MORE GINNY trotted a strong mile last week despite finishing second. She faces tougher competition, but has displayed the speed to compete in here. (4) CEDAR DOVE qualified very strong at The Meadowlands, but may need a start to find her legs. She’s very capable.

Race 7

(2) AMBLE OVER HANOVER draws inside and is fresh off a convincing win. He comes out of Montini’s barn and moves up in class, but is still very capable of winning. (4) SHIPPS XPECTANCY has quick gate-speed and draws well. He’s been racing very consistently at this level and is fresh off a win. (5) ALLAMERICAN EXTRA also won last week and moves up in class. He’s got a good record this season and is a logical choice for the triactor.

Race 8

(4) MAVEN set a Canadian record in her only start of the season, so it’s safe to say that she’s on top of her game right now and clearly the horse to beat in this field. (3) BEATGOESONHANOVER has flourished so far this season, but wasn’t at her best last start. She’ll look for a rebound effort; very capable. (6) SMARTY PANTS trotted in 1:52 4/5 in her latest start at Woodbine and that makes her worthy of being selected for the triactor. She finished her mile very well and likely will offer a high price.

Race 9

(8) UNRED HANOVER raced against North America’s best in her last few starts at Yonkers. I feel this is a lighter group and she should prevail. (9) GREYSTONE LADYLIKE draws outside, but is very versatile and races at her best when she’s coming off a helmet. She has terrific final quarter speed and is always a threat turning for home. (1) SHELLISCAPE is a classy filly who will begin her four-year-old campaign. She may need a start or two to find her legs, but she qualified twice and comes out of the McIntosh barn.

Race 10

(3) DREAMFAIR ECLIPSE finishes her miles very strong and she draws inside. She’s at a level where she’s very competitive and should be well positioned. (7) ROBIN CRUISER drew outside last week and closed very well to finish third. She draws outside again, but she’s very versatile. (10) ST LADS PEEPER will have to overcome post 10, but won at this level two starts ago. She comes out of Wallace’s barn and is a player.

Race 11

(1) ON THE CUSP raced very well last week to finish second in her first start of the season. She draws well and drops in class. (3) LANESIDE LEXUS hasn’t been at her best so far this season, but she’s at a level where she’s competitive and draws inside. (5) MIA SEELSTER draws in with a lighter class than she’s been facing and found the winner’s circle just two starts ago. She’s a factor in this race, but I think she’ll need a trip.

Race 12

(5) PRECIOUS CAMMILL finished second, by a head, in this class last week. She’s very capable again for Waples. (4) BOAT HOUSE ROW has been knocking on the door at this level in her last three starts. I’m not sure if she’s ready to win, but is a good option for the exactor. (8) TARAS JET hit the board in this class last week, but tends to be inconsistent. She’ll likely offer a price and I’d consider her for the triactor.
