Mohawk: Friday 6/14 Analysis

Race 4 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (3 - 6 / $8.90): SWINGING BEAUTY (5th)

Spot Play: THE NORTHERN DUDE (11th)

Race 1

(10) LEAVEUMLADY was sick two starts ago before finishing second in the Gold event at London. That was a speedy time and she faces easier competition in here. (2) FLYING TOPLESS draws inside and gets much needed post relief. She finishes her miles very strong and should benefit from a better trip. (3) SOUTHWIND MIAMI has won four straight and moves onto this circuit. She shows enough speed, but hasn't raced since April 30.

Race 2

(4) ALIBI SEELSTER qualified well with a good time and solid final quarter. She comes out of Darling's barn, which is the main reason for my pick. (6) BAHAMA BLUE qualified very well with a :27 4/5 last quarter. She comes out of the Jamieson barn, which has a terrific reputation with young horses. (5) PRETTY HOT won her qualifier and that sets her up well in here. This marks the first race for babies at Mohawk this summer.

Race 3

(7) MAJESTIC TAGLET returns to racing against the boys, but she drops in class and goes to the bottom level. She's very competitive in this class and Lalonde's barn has been very good this season. (8) SONNY VALE made up countless ground last week to finish third and returns to the same class. He'll likely race from behind again, so look for him late in the mile. (6) NORTHERN SPARK tends to be very inconsistent, but finished second in this class last week. He'll likely offer a price.

Race 4

(7) MACH AWAY has won three straight and four of her last five. She's the obvious choice in here. (10) MODERN IMAGE does have post 10, but possesses terrific gate-speed. She's also yet to miss the board in all four starts this season. (3) SENORITA SANTANNA is a horse I'm not convinced can win, but a good option for third. She draws inside and recently finished second for team Jamieson.

Race 5

(2) SWINGING BEAUTY moves back onto this circuit and gets major class relief. She was facing the best mares in North America and should be able to handle this group. (7) DOCS HOPE has a good record this season and drops in class. She's very capable and versatile. (3) MACH A WISH draws inside and finished third in this class last week. She comes out of the O'Sullivan barn and is a good option in here.

Race 6

(2) WAASMULA draws inside and drops in class. She gets significant class relief, gets Jamieson in the bike and will look for her first win of 2013. (4) PALM PATROL made a miscue last week and was racing very well leading up to it. Auciello is a very capable trainer and this mare draws inside and enjoys being put into the race. (5) RACHEL OLIVIA lands a good midpack post.

Race 7

(7) MY MAN trotted home strongly last week to finish second. He's very capable at this level and comes out of Moreau's barn. (5) CHARLIE IS A JOKER has won two straight and although he moves up in class, he's very playable. He set a new lifetime best last week of 1:54 1/4 and that sets him up well in here. (10) BRUCE THE BRAVE hasn't missed the board in four starts and has the ability to overcome post 10. He's a good option for the triactor.

Race 8

This is a wide-open race, but (2) GABLE BLUE CHIP is improving for trainer Moreau and draws inside. I'm hoping for a price as he draws inside and looks for his first win. (3) SHIFTIN GEARTOGEAR gets post relief and shows enough speed. He hasn't been at his best in recent starts and I'm price shopping. If (10) JUNIOR K drew inside, he likely would have been my top selection. He'll have to overcome post 10, but drops in class.

Race 9

(2) GUNGA WIN draws inside and has a good record this season. He overcame post 10 last week to finish second, by a nose, in this class. (4) PEMBROKE HEAT WAVE gets major class relief and should be much more effective in here. She doesn't have the best record this season, but draws better for team McNair. (3) ZORGWIJK JOCK gets post relief and comes out of Moreau's barn. He's very versatile and shows enough trot.

Race 10

(3) PARADE ROUTE is fresh off a win and races the same type of group in here. She's got a great record this season and likely will be the favourite. (2) LOOKERS DESTINY draws inside and shows enough speed in this field. She continues to improve with each start and likely will be put into the race from post two. (5) SEASIDE RORY made a break last week, but won the two starts prior. She comes out of the Gillis barn and gets Jamieson in the bike.

Race 11

(6) THE NORTHERN DUDE is fresh off a convincing win at Hanover and that type of mile could translate into a big effort on this surface. (5) BACK TO PEACE gets major class relief and faces an easier bunch in here. He's yet to hit the board in seven starts this season and I'm looking for a price on him. (1) FLASHBACK draws inside and I'm price shopping with him. He tends to be inconsistent, but finished third in this class last week.

Race 12

(6) SMASHBOX drops in class and is a much better mare than she's been showing. I'm looking for a rebound effort from her. (9) BOAT HOUSE ROW has his the board in each of her last four starts. She's a good option to consider for the exactor, even with a post nine start. (10) JANIE BAY will have to overcome post 10, but scored the win last week in this class. She's very capable and is a big threat if she's not too far back.
