Mohawk: American Jewel sets World Record in Fan Hanover final

Thinking Out Loud may have taken the featured North America Cup final but American Jewel turned in the most impressive performance on the stakes-filled card on Saturday at Mohawk Racetrack. The 3-year-old filly posted a World Record 1:48 2/5 victory in the C$642,000 Fan Hanover final.

The Fan Hanover provided little in the way of drama as American Jewel went directly to the front and just kept finding more despite strong fractions of :26 2/5, :55, and 1:21 3/5. Romantic Moment and Big McDeal chased from second and third but never advanced from those spots from start to finish.

In the end it was American Jewel who won by an easy length and knocked two-fifths off the world record mark.

“She has high speed and can go a long way,” said driver Tim Tetrick. “She just really wanted to pace around the final turn and just took off on her own.”

Jimmy Takter, who predicted earlier in the week that American Jewel could pace as fast as the boys (NA Cup final went in 1:47 4/5), trained the daughter of American Ideal-Trim Hanover.

American Jewel is now 10 for 12 lifetime with earnings over $900,000 for owner Brittany Farms.
