Model's Memo on roll

Model's Memo should vie for the favorites role with a handful of others as a full field of 12 Indiana-bred 3-year-old fillies meet in Monday's $50,000 Indiana First Lady Stakes going a mile on the turf course at Indiana Downs.

Model's Memo, who will make her first start on turf, comes into the race off back-to-back wins. She handled maiden company with ease in her first start here April 30, drawing off to score by eight lengths. She returned May 16 in a race taken off the turf and rallied to score by 1 1/2 lengths against entry-level allowance company.

Model's Memo, trained by Tom Drury, has a pedigree to run well on grass. She is by Editor's Note out of the Leo Castelli mare Top Model. Leading rider Orlando Mojica will be aboard from post 7. With the abundance of speed in this field, Model's Memo should rate off the early leaders and make a solid stretch run.

Lil Mai Tai made her first start of the year at Churchill Downs on May 18, finishing sixth in a turf sprint. She will run a mile for the first time on Monday. Last fall, Lil Mai Tai captured both the City of Anderson Stakes and Miss Indiana Stakes at Hoosier Park while earning more than $60,000. Trained by Genaro Garcia, Lil Mai Tai will have Inosencio Diego aboard from post 8.

While the majority of this field is trying a mile for the first time, Crazy X Lover has experience going two turns and comes off a 6 1/2-length maiden win here on the grass May 30. She stalked an early pace duel and took command in the 1 1/16-mile test. She will again have Victor Lebron aboard.
