Mobile Bay delivers as favorite in Sunland Park Handicap

Edgar Prado guides Mobile Bay to a 1 1/2-length victory in the Sunland Park Handicap.

Mobile Bay was prominent throughout for a 1 1/2- length win over Pain and Misery in the $150,000 Sunland Park Handicap on Sunday. It was another 5 3/4 lengths back in third to Ol Winedrinker Who.

Mobile Bay ($4) tracked Super Accord through fractions of 23.99 seconds for the opening quarter-mile, 46.87 for the half-mile, and 1:09.99 for six furlongs. The eventual winner overtook Super Accord and went on to cover 1 1/8 miles on a fast track in 1:48.35.

Edgar Prado rode the winner for trainer Victor Arceneaux.

Mobile Bay earned $90,000 for the win, his eighth career victory from 17 starts. He has now earned $768,290. Mobile Bay is a 4-year-old by Lone Star Special. He was bred in Louisiana by his owner, Tigertail Ranch.
