Mobil takes Ontario Derby

Mobil ($3.90) went over the $1 million mark in career earnings with a 6 3/4-length score in Monday's Grade 3, $159,900 Ontario Derby at Woodbine. He opened up a clear lead at the three-sixteenths pole before loafing a little in midstretch, but proved a comfortable winner in 1:51.99 in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds.

"He's earned $1 million the hard way," said Todd Kabel, who rode Mobil. "He strutted his stuff today, but you could see that he's a tired horse."

Mobil, trained by Mike Keogh for owner Gustav Schickedanz, earned $100,737, which boosted his bankroll to $1,034,381.

El Gran Maestro finished second, a nose in front of Added Edge.

Classic Stamp ($9) won her first stakes in Monday's co-feature, the $168,000 Carotene Stakes.

Classic Stamp outran Kabul and Miss Crissy in the final furlong to prevail by a head over Kabul.

Cliff Hopmans trains Classic Stamp, who earned $100,800 for owner Bill Sorokolit in the 1 1/8-mile turf race.
