Mizz Molly Molly in Northlands amends spot

Email

Mizz Molly Molly will try and atone for her third-place finish as the heavy favorite in a $20,000 claiming race Aug. 4 when she runs in a similar race at Northlands Park Sunday. The one-mile feature for fillies and mares drew seven horses and goes as race 7.

Driven by Seattle and Play Nine, first and second in the same race Mizz Molly Molly exits, have also been entered. Making it difficult for Mizz Molly Molly to make amends is Lucy Got Lucky, a winner of three races while competing on the much tougher Southern California circuit this year.

Mizz Molly Molly will likely be favored coming out of the red-hot Jim Meyaard barn, and she may have bounced in her latest start following a seven-length romp over Hardcore Candy in a $13,000 claiming race July 4. She also broke a step slowly and then got hung out three wide while making a late move around the stretch turn.

Rico Walcott, who has been aboard for a couple of Mizz Molly Molly’s 12 wins, picks up the mount from Anthony Salgado.

Leading trainer Robertino Diodoro will saddle Lucy Got Lucky and Plan Nine. Lucy Got Lucky will be making her first start for Diodoro. She is coming off of a fourth-place finish as the even-money favorite in a $12,500 claiming race at Hollywood Park and was claimed out of the race by owner Alfredo Vargas, who shipped her to Diodoro’s barn at Northlands. Lucy Got Lucky has tactical speed and used it to win a $10,000 claiming race going 1 1/16 miles at Hollywood June 11 last out.

Driven by Seattle is an obvious threat to repeat for trainer James Hoffman.
