Mizdirection swaps targets to Keeneland's Raven Run

Mizdirection, winner of the Sandy Blue Handicap at Del Mar, will skip the Sen. Ken Maddy at Santa Anita in favor of the Grade 2 Raven Run at Keeneland on Oct. 22.

Mizdirection, another Puype-trained 3-year-old filly, is tentatively aiming to the Grade 2 Raven Run on Oct. 22 at Keeneland. Mizdirection won the $90,000 Sandy Blue Handicap at Del Mar, at which time the plan was to challenge Unzip Me on Sept. 30 at Santa Anita in the Grade 3 Sen. Ken Maddy. Puype rerouted the campaign for Mizdirection after considering the conditions of the Maddy.

“I can’t run her against Unzip Me at equal weights,” he said.

The Maddy, a handicap last year, will be run this year under allowance conditions. Mizdirection has 2 wins and 3 seconds from 5 starts; Puype said he believes Mizdirection will benefit from the shorter distance of the seven-furlong Raven Run on Polytrack.

“I like the reduction in distance,” he said.

The backup plan for Mizdirection is the Grade 3 Ramser on Oct. 16 at Santa Anita, at one mile on turf.
