Mizdirection, a former beast on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita, is now a mother. The winner of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in 2012 and 2013, Mizdirection produced her first foal April 28 in France – a colt by New Approach.

On Sunday at Santa Anita, the rescheduled $75,000 Mizdirection Stakes for fillies and mares is expected to be run on the hillside course, where Mizdirection was 6 for 6. The leading nominee for the stakes is Home Journey, whose trainer, Mike Puype, guided Mizdirection through a career that included 11 wins from 17 starts and earnings of $1,719,621.

Mizdirection previously was owned by a partnership that included sports broadcaster Jim Rome. Two days after Mizdirection won the 2013 BC Turf Sprint, she was sold at auction for $2.7 million. The leading earner sired by Mizzen Mast, Mizdirection was purchased by the Al Shaqab Racing of Sheikh Joann al-Thani.

Mizdirection produced her colt at Haras de Bouquetot in France. The 7-year-old mare is scheduled to be bred this spring to Al Shaqab’s four-time Group 1 winner Olympic Glory, who stands at Haras de Bouqeutot. The 2015 breeding season is his first.
