Mizdirection among mares in Al Kazeem’s first book

Two-time Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Mizdirection will be among the first book of mares for multiple Group 1 winner Al Kazeem as he begins his stallion career at The Royal Studs in Sandringham, England, Racing Post reports.

Mizdirection was a $2.7 million purchase by Sheikh Joaan al-Thani’s Qatar-based Al Shaqab Racing, represented by Mandore International, at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale on Nov. 4. Sheikh Joaan, who campaigns Cartier European Horse of the Year Treve, is among the 38 shareholders in Al Kazeem, with his Al Shaqab and Queen Elizabeth II’s Royal Studs holding the most significant shares. Other notable operations on the list of shareholders for the 5-year-old Dubawi horse include Coolmore, the Aga Khan Studs, Juddmonte, Cheveley Park Stud, and Lane's End Stud.

Mizdirection, a 5-year-old Mizzen Mast mare, won 11 of 17 career starts for earnings of $1,719,621. In addition to her Breeders’ Cup wins, the mare is a two-time winner of the Monrovia Stakes, once as a Grade 2 and once as a Grade 3, and the Las Cienegas Stakes, which was promoted from listed to Grade 3 in the years that she won.

Other notables in Al Kazeem’s book include Grade 1 winner Shotgun Gulch; Changing Skies, a Grade 3-winning three-quarter sister to Nathaniel; and stakes producers Model Queen, Night Frolic, and Winesong.

Millionaire Al Kazeem defeated dual classic winner Camelot in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and also won the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes and Group 1 Coral Eclipse Stakes. He also finished second in the Irish Champion Stakes and third in the Juddmonte International, both Group 1 events.
