Misty for Me connects at 10-1 in Moyglare Stud Stakes

Misty for Me handed even-money favorite Memory a resounding defeat in the Group 1, $300,000 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday as she led throughout to take the seven-furlong race by a length from Laughing Lashes.

One of four juvenile fillies trained by Aidan O’Brien in the race, the 10-1 Misty for Me was given a superb ride by Jamie Heffernan as she held off the late challenge of 7-2 second choice Laughing Lashes through the final 1 1/2  furlongs. Kissable was a neck farther back in third with O’Brien’s first string Together fourth, another half-length behind.

The Richard Hannon-trained Memory, previously undefeated and the winner of two Group 2 races in England, made some late progress to finish sixth, 7 1/4 lengths behind the winner, who covered the seven furlongs on good to firm ground in 1:24.56.

By Galileo out of a mare by Storm Cat, the Irish-bred Misty for Me had won her maiden two back in her second start at the Curragh going six furlongs. Last time at the Curragh on Aug. 8, she had been beaten a length into second by Laughing Lashes in the seven-furlong, Group 2 Debutante Stakes. Misty for Me could run next at Longchamp in the one-mile, Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac on Oct. 3.

* The return of 3-time Group 1 winner Lush Lashes off a 14-month absence was unsuccessful as the Jim Bolger-trained 5-year-old mare could only finish fourth in the Group 3, $89,000 Dance Design Stakes for fillies and mares. She wound up three lengths behind the victorious Joanna Morgan-trained Obama Rule, who paid off at 16-1 while covering the 1 1/8 miles in a tepid 1:56.09.
