Miss Vegas captures Senorita

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Miss Vegas made a splashy start to her American career in Saturday's $108,900 at Hollywood Park.

Leading throughout, she held off a late run by Ticker Tape to win the one-mile turf stakes by a head.

The victory did not surprise jockey Alex Solis, who said Miss Vegas responded when challenged in the final furlong.

"The other filly came to her and I thought I had some horse," Solis said. "That's a nice filly that came to us, but she fought to the wire."

Trained by Bobby Frankel for Edmund Gann, Miss Vegas ($6.80) was timed in 1:34.25. Ticker Tape rallied from sixth along the rail to reach contention on the final turn. She quickly engaged Miss Vegas, but could not pass the pacesetter in a bid for her third consecutive stakes win. The 6-5 favorite, Ticker Tape finished three lengths in front of Amorama in the field of seven 3-year-old fillies.

Miss Vegas previously raced in Italy where she won three minor sprint stakes. The Senorita was her first start since November and her first race beyond about six furlongs.

Overall, the Irish-bred filly has won 6 of 7 starts and $212,942.
