Miss Singhsix takes Maryland Media

Miss Singhsix made a four-wide move on the far turn and then held off fellow 4-5 co-favorite Love's Blush through the stretch to score a 1 1/2-length victory Saturday in the $55,200 Maryland Racing Media Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/8 miles at Laurel Park.

Nasreen set a slow and steady pace, with splits of 25.57 seconds, 50.64, and 1:15.22 through the first three-quarters of a mile, as Miss Singhsix saved ground in fourth place under jockey Luis Garcia. Rounding the final turn, My Main Starr, Love's Blush, and Miss Singhsix made their moves for the lead, with Miss Singhsix taking control at the quarter pole and edging away. Love's Blush, a slight favorite over Miss Singhsix, finished four lengths in front of My Main Starr, with Nasreen fading to finish last in the field of five.

Miss Singhsix, owned by Team Valor International and trained by Marty Wolfson, covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:51.67. She returned $3.80.

The victory was Miss Singhsix's first since December 2008, ending a seven-racing losing streak. The 5-year-old mare was coming off a fifth-place finish in the Grade 3 Stage Door Betty Handicap at Calder in December.
