Miss Silver Pistol rises to stakes level

Miss Silver Pistol, a winner with ease against open maiden special weight foes at first asking on July 12, takes her act to stakes company Friday night as she tops a 12-horse field in the filly division of the $100,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes at Evangeline Downs. The 5 1/2-furlong affair is restricted to those who passed through the sales ring at the John Franks sale held at Evangeline in March. The colt and gelding division is set for Saturday night.

Trained by Brett Brinkman for Heiligbrodt Racing, Miss Silver Pistol brought $12,000 in March and earned more than that amount in her convincing debut. She stalked the early pace before rallying strongly down the stretch under Gerard Melancon to win by three lengths.

Tensas Cool Town finished eighth in the $133,000 filly division of the D.S. "Shine" Young Futurity on July 4, and faces an easier task on Friday night. She was purchased for $22,000 in March and has a win and a second-place finish from four starts for trainer Anthony Agilar.

The only other winner in the field is Diamond Mission. A Deputy Diamond filly, she was a 5 1/2-length winner in front-running fashion in her second and most recent start, on June 21. She is trained by John Gelner.
