Miss Macy Sue favored in Prairie Rose

Email

Miss Macy Sue, a six-length winner of the Carousel Stakes last time out at Oaklawn, rates a strong favorite in the $50,000 Prairie Rose at six furlongs Saturday night at Prairie Meadows. Six have been entered, with Miss Macy Sue the 2-1 morning-line choice.

"She came out of her last race great, and she worked super the other day," trainer Kelly Von Hemel said. "Everything looks good and we like our chances."

Eddie Razo Jr. gets the return call on Miss Macy Sue.

"He said he'd like to ride her again, and he did a nice job on her down at Oaklawn," Von Hemel said.

Miss Macy Sue, who has worked eight consecutive bullets at Oaklawn and Prairie Meadows, should get a stalking trip.

Shimmering Sunset, up from Turf Paradise, should make the early lead. She set the pace last time out, getting the half-mile in 43.87, before fading to third in the Excess Energy Stakes on April 2 in her first start of 2007. Glenn Corbett should be aboard for trainer Justin Evans.

Hawthorne invader Flashy Lady will be making her third start of the year and figures to be up close as well. The beaten favorite in her last two starts, she comes into the Prairie Rose off an impressive work in 59.30, breezing, at Hawthorne seven days ago. Ken Shino is named to ride for trainer Frank Kirby.

The rest of the field is On Safari, Daytime Pleasure, and Genuine True.
