Mirahmadi to call daytime Thoroughbred races at Los Alamitos

CYPRESS, Calif. – The new daytime voice of Los Alamitos is Frank Mirahmadi, the colorful announcer who will call races at the track’s fall Thoroughbred meet, which runs from Friday through Sept. 21.

Ed Burgart, the longtime Los Alamitos Quarter Horse announcer, will continue to call evening Quarter Horse races.

Mirahmadi has called races at Oaklawn Park since early 2012 and worked at major tracks across the country. Mirahmadi also calls races on the Northern California fair circuit, including Ferndale, and early this spring filled in for Trevor Denman at Santa Anita.

Mirahmadi has called the night action at Los Alamitos, filling in for Burgart, most recently in September 2012. Mirahmadi also is a racing analyst on TVG.

Mirahmadi called his first race in 1992 at Hollywood Park and is widely known for impersonations of race-callers in addition to celebrities such as Marv Albert and Rodney Dangerfield.

In a prepared statement, Los Alamitos general manager Brad McKinzie said, “We are excited to have Frank join the team at Los Alamitos Race Course. We feel that with Frank and Ed, we have the best 1-2 punch of announcers in the country.”
