Mirahmadi to call daytime Thoroughbred races at Los Alamitos

CYPRESS, Calif. – The new daytime voice of Los Alamitos is Frank Mirahmadi, the colorful announcer who will call races at the track’s fall Thoroughbred meet, which runs from Friday through Sept. 21.

Ed Burgart, the longtime Los Alamitos Quarter Horse announcer, will continue to call evening Quarter Horse races.

Mirahmadi has called races at Oaklawn Park since early 2012 and worked at major tracks across the country. Mirahmadi also calls races on the Northern California fair circuit, including Ferndale, and early this spring filled in for Trevor Denman at Santa Anita.

Mirahmadi has called the night action at Los Alamitos, filling in for Burgart, most recently in September 2012. Mirahmadi also is a racing analyst on TVG.

Mirahmadi called his first race in 1992 at Hollywood Park and is widely known for impersonations of race-callers in addition to celebrities such as Marv Albert and Rodney Dangerfield.

In a prepared statement, Los Alamitos general manager Brad McKinzie said, “We are excited to have Frank join the team at Los Alamitos Race Course. We feel that with Frank and Ed, we have the best 1-2 punch of announcers in the country.”

Frank is a good announcer. if you listen to him at Oaklawn he has stopped the impersonations. When he does them people complain, when he doesn't people complain. Give the guy a break. Ed is great at quarter horses, but it is hard to go back and forth and he should stick to the QH.

Extremely overrated as an announcer.

Best 1-2 punch, yeah ok. Sounds like the guy is a couple french fries short of a happy meal.

I would like to know what Brad McKinzie is drinking with the comment of "best 1-2 punch of announcers in the country"....Oh, really! Ed does Quarter Horse is very good, but, it is Quarter Horse and there are not that many QH announcers...Frank is entertaining, but, better than Trevor Denman? Yeah, right...Brad focus on improving the races you run and not delusional comments

Agreed. The only job McKinzie has had before Allred adopted him, Was being a groom for Barry Woodhouse. No joke its true.

Frank does a great job & it seems really clear that the impressions are a thing of the past. Los Al will be pleased to have him there in the afternoons. Ed still does a great job at night.

He's a much better announcer calling the races as Harry Henson than as himself. Harry had a style where less is sometimes better.
