Mini Mom wins Tomboy

Mini Mom proved best of the 3-year-old Ohio-bred fillies in the $50,000 1 1/16-mile Tomboy on the turf Saturday at Beulah Park. Tim Hamm trained the first three finishers, after entering four in the race.

Mini Mom, ridden by Cesar Camaque, made it two in a row locally. While stalking the pace from between horses and laying off the early leaders, she split horses, rallied into the stretch, and took the lead. Mini Mom held off stablemate Littlebitabling through the stretch, winning by 1 1/4 lengths in 1.43.10. The Hamm-trained entry of Mini Mom, Littlebitabling, and Reapingtherewards was sent off as the 3-2 second choice and returned $5.

Littlebitabling, ridden by Hector Rosario Jr., could not go with Mini Mom in the stretch, but was clearly the best of the rest. It was more than eight lengths back to Spirit of Fire, ridden by Justin Vitek, who was not coupled with the other three Hamm entries.

Cryptohio, the previously undefeated favorite, made a nice middle move on the far turn before flattening out and finishing sixth under Rodney Prescott. She appeared to have no excuse in her first grass attempt.
