Million Dollar Run wins stakes as maiden

Million Dollar Run won the first race of her career in the most unlikely spot - Sunday's $110,400 Railbird Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Making the second start of her career, Million Dollar Run ($31.40) ran seven furlongs in a brisk 1:20.66 under jockey Joel Rosario. The winning time just missed the track record of 1:20.50 set last December by Soul City Slew.

Owned by breeder Everest Stable and trained by Marcelo Polanco, Million Dollar Run stalked pacesetter Peisinoe through early fractions of 22.13 and 44.45 seconds before taking the lead in early stretch.

Million Dollar Run pulled clear in the final furlong to win by 2 1/4 lengths over Tasha's Miracle, the winner of the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes at Del Mar last August.

Lethal Heat, the 6-5 favorite, broke poorly and recovered to finish third in the field of eight 3-year-old fillies. She suffered her first defeat after winning three races in March, including the Grade 3 Santa Paula Stakes at Santa Anita.

Million Dollar Run, by Tejano Run, has run twice. She finished second by a neck in a six-furlong maiden race at Santa Anita on March 30. Million Dollar Run has earned $75,840.
