Millennium Wind to stand stud

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 1 winner Millennium Wind has been sold privately to stand at Ro Parra and William Hardin's Millennium Farm near Lexington, Ky., for 2003. His fee has not been set.

A 4-year-old Cryptoclearance colt, he retired from racing in late May after re-injuring a tendon during a workout. David Hofmans trained Millennium Wind.

Parra purchased Millennium Wind privately in a deal brokered by Bluegrass Thoroughbred Services in Kentucky and New York-based South Island Bloodstock. Plans call for the colt to stand as Parra's property. Parra bought the former Buckland Farm property in 1999.

Dave and Jill Heerensperger paid $1.2 million for Millennium Wind at the 1999 Keeneland September yearling sale. His 5 1/4-length win in the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes two years later made him a serious contender for the Kentucky Derby, but he finished 11th and came out of the race with an injured tendon. Millennium Wind also won the Grade 2 Santa Catalina Stakes in 2001.

Bred by Parrish Hill Farm in Midway, Ky., Millennium Wind is out of the Drone mare Bali Babe. That makes him a half-brother to 1999 Horse of the Year Charismatic.
