Millennium Wind, a 14-year-old stallion in Arizona who had won the 2001 Blue Grass Stakes, was euthanized Saturday due to complications of endotoxemia after suffering a hernia, according to the farm where he stood.
Millennium Wind, a son of Cryptoclearance out of the Drone mare Bali Babe, was a half-brother to 1999 Horse of the Year Charismatic. As a yearling, he sold for $1.2 million at the Keeneland September yearling sale in 1999, the same year that Charismatic won the Kentucky Derby.
Millennium Wind earned $792,920 from seven starts. In addition to the Blue Grass, Millennium Wind won the Santa Catalina Stakes and the Louisiana Derby.
Millennium Wind was standing at Little Kentucky farm near Waddell, Ariz., for a fee of $1,500 live foal as the property of Shawn Haggstrom at the time he died. He had sired three stakes winners and the winners of $4 million at the time of his death.
We were sad to hear that we have lost such a special member of the Parrish Hill Farm family. We are forever grateful for Bali Babe and the outstanding racehorses that she produced. Millennium Wind will surely be missed by all of us in the Roach family. We were so proud of his many accomplishments on the track.
