ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Midnight Miley ($57.10) ran them off their feet in Sunday’s $156,100 Ontario Matron at Woodbine, winning the Grade 3 stakes comfortably under Rafael Hernandez.

Midnight Miley secured an uncontested early advantage after Moon Rainbow was squeezed back at the break, and then proceeded to set moderate splits on a substantial lead in the 1 1/16-mile route. She had a 4 1/2-length lead entering the stretch, and kept on going to prevail by four lengths, in a final time of 1:43.74.

Miss Chatelaine rallied wide for second, as Moon Rainbow closed inside from eighth to finish another half-length back in third. The favored New York invader Flipcup was eased in the stretch, but she looked fine when returning to be unsaddled.

The Julia Carey-trained Midnight Miley, a daughter of Midnight Lute, earned $90,000 for the California-based Little Red Feather Racing.

“She got so far in front, with slow fractions, and I thought she was still going to kick,” Carey said. “She was doing so, so good. I would have been shocked had she not run a good race. It was a little tough on paper, but as it turned out, we were the tough one.”
