Meyocks leaves NTRA post

Terry Meyocks resigned as the vice president of memberships and industry relations for the National Thoroughbred Racing Associations as of the end of May, Meyocks said on Wednesday.

Meyocks said he resigned in order to pursue an opportunity that he would not disclose.

"I couldn't stay at the NTRA and go after the position at the same time," Meyocks said. Meyocks will retain his position on the NTRA's political action committee, he said.

The NTRA hired Meyocks as a special assistant to then-commissioner Tim Smith early in 2004. Meyocks had previously been chief operating officer of the New York Racing Association.

Meyocks did confirm that he has had discussions with the Jockeys' Guild about becoming the guild's new national manager. He said, however, that the position at the guild was not related to his resignation from the NTRA.

Meyocks is the son of a prominent jockey agent and the father-in-law of leading jockey Javier Castellano.
