Meydan: Golden Shaheen winner Reynaldothewizard returns

Email

The second Meydan card of the 2014 Dubai World Cup Carnival features prep races for the UAE 1000 Guineas and 2000 Guineas, and the first stakes race - the $150,000 Dubawi Stakes - in the series for sprinters on the Tapeta main track.

The Dubawi includes names very familiar to followers of racing at Meydan, including the top three finishers – Reynaldothewizard, Balmont Mast, and Krypton Factor - from the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen last March.

Reynaldothewizard, now 8, will be making his first start since upsetting the Golden Shaheen for trainer Satish Seemar and jockey Richard Mullen. Reynaldothewizard won all three of his races at Meydan during the 2013 Carnival after returning to action following a layoff just like the one he’s had since the Golden Shaheen.

Balmont Mast’s runner-up performance in the Golden Shaheen also was somewhat unexpected, as he had finished only fourth and third in less prominent sprint stakes leading to that $1 million race.

Krypton Factor won the 2012 Golden Shaheen, but is winless in eight races since that victory. Kavanagh, from the powerful barn of trainer Mike de Kock, is capable on his best, but needed his first two starts during the 2013 Carnival to reach peak form.

The Dubawi goes as race 5 on a six-race card. De Kock and Godolphin figure to feature prominently in the preps for the UAE 1000 Guineas (race 2) and UAE 2000 Guineas (race 3).

Why does anyone care about the racing in Dubai? You can't wager on-track so why would anybody even bother to attend the races there?

Funny that you are getting thumbs down for this comment. Its a TRUE statement and its also an insult that its only one of two articles that you can read on the DRF homepage for free! This comment wont last long as DRF will delete it due to its accurateness. I havent spent a cent on PP's from drf.com in months and I hope others are following. Equibase at least offers 3 cards for $5.95. Why would you buy here?
