Anaerobio, a Group 1 winner in Argentina in 2010, won his first group stakes in Dubai in Thursday’s $250,000 Al Fahidi Fort Stakes on turf at Meydan Racecourse.

Ridden by Christophe Soumillon for Michael de Kock, Anearobio stalked pacesetter Pearl Flute for the first six furlongs while racing on the rail. Soumillon guided the 7-year-old Anearobio off the rail in the stretch, and took the lead, holding off a late threat from Mshawish to win the seven-furlong turf race by three-quarters of a length.

Mshawish, ridden by Frankie Dettori, raced on the rail in traffic until the stretch. Mshawish quickened when clear but could not catch the winner.

Pearl Flute held third in the field of 14. Anearobio and Mshawish were 5-1 co-favorites with British bookmakers.

Anearobio is owned by Mohammed Khaleel Ahmed and has raced in the United Arab Emirates since early 2012. Anearobio, by Catcher In the Rye, won the Group 1 Gran Premio Clasico Jockey Club in Argentina in 2010.

The Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort was Anearobio’s third consecutive win, a streak that began last February. Anearobio won his first start this year in a minor handicap over seven furlongs at Meydan on Jan. 9.
