Metropolitan adds two new stallions

EmailFormer champion grass horse Northern Spur and stakes winner Yankee Mon have joined the stallion roster for Metropolitan Stud at Dutchess Views Farm in Pine Plains, N.Y.

Northern Spur, winner of the 1995 Breeders' Cup Turf and voted that year's champion turf male, relocates from True North Farm in Versailles, Ky. The 16-year-old Sadler's Wells horse will stand for $3,000 in 2008, down from his 2007 fee of $3,500. Northern Spur is out of the stakes-placed Rheingold mare Fruition, who also is the dam of Grade 3 winner Kneller and Group 3 winner Great Marquess and stakes-placed Oenothera.

Yankee Mon, a 6-year-old Maria's Mon horse, is out of the Seattle Slew mare Sodeo Sodeo. He won the 2005 Evan Shipman Stakes and finished third in two other Belmont stakes, the 2005 General Douglas MacArthur Handicap and the 2007 Say Florida Sandy Stakes. Campaigned by Windmill Manor Farm, he retires from the track with a lifetime record of five wins and four third-place finishes in 20 starts. He will stand for $2,500.
