Memorette, Victor Espinoza up, wins her first graded stakes in Saturday's $150,000 Beverly Hills Handicap at Hollywood Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Memorette won her first graded stakes in Saturday's $150,000 . It was the 11th appearance in a graded stakes for the 4-year-old filly, who rallied behind a quick pace to pull an upset.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Memorette ($18.40) ran 1 1-4 miles on turf in 2:00.16, running down Live Life in deep stretch. Moscow Burning finished third in the field of nine fillies and mares.

Memorette was sixth for the first six furlongs, well behind the quick pace of 22.64 and 45.82 seconds shared by Sohgol and Dream Lady. While Sohgol and Dream Lady faded on the backstretch, Live Life, who was near the leaders early, was left with a two-length lead in the stretch. Espinoza moved Memorette closer on the second turn, and was two lengths with a furlong remaining.

Memorette took the lead in the last 40 yards, winning by three-quarters of a length.

Owned by Betty Currin and trained by her wife, Bill, Memorette, 4, has won 4 of 19 starts and $620,753. The Grade 2 Beverly Hills was her third stakes win.
