Megahertz captures Beverly Hills

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Megahertz scored her 12th career stakes win in Saturday's $200,000 at Hollywood Park, using her typical come-from behind style to beat five overmatched fillies and mares.

Similar to so many of her stakes wins, there was not a lot of suspense in the outcome.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Megahertz ($2.80) made up six lengths in the final half-mile to win by a measured three-quarters of a length over Winendynme.

Megahertz finished 1 1-4 miles on turf in 2:01.78.

The victory left Megahertz unbeaten in three starts this year, following wins in the Santa Ana and Santa Barbara handicaps in March and April.

As the race unfolded, Megahertz was closer to the front than in previous starts. She was six lengths behind pacesetter Five Nickels through slow fractions of 25.13 and 49.49 seconds. On the final turn, Solis asked Megahertz to move closer and got a response. She rallied between rivals on the turn and reached the front in the final furlong.

"She knew what to do," said Humberto Ascanio, assistant trainer to Bobby Frankel.

Halo Ola finished third, followed by Five Nickels, Agata and Uraib.

Megahertz caused a minus show pool of $35,435, drawing $227,083of the $258,663 in the pool.

Owned by Michael Bello, Megahertz, 6, has won 13 of 31 starts and $1,811,594.
