Medaglia d'Oro will shuttle to Australia

Medaglia d'Oro, the sire of Rachel Alexandra and currently second among North America third-crop sires, will shuttle to Australia for the first time this year.

Darley Stud bought a majority interest in the popular 11-year-old stallion last summer and announced Saturday that it will stand him at Darley's Australian branch during the 2010 Southern Hemisphere season.

Medaglia d'Oro stands for $100,000 this year at Darley's Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Ky. Among the mares booked to him in the United States this year are Cara Rafaela, dam of Darley's champion juvenile Bernardini; Windsharp, champion and dam of Breeders' Cup Turf winner Johar; Bollinger, dam of multiple graded winner Friesan Fire; Fleet Lady, dam of 2008 champion juvenile Midshipman; Quiet Dance, dam of the 2005 Horse of the Year, Saint Liam; and Tap Your Heels, dam of 2009's leading freshman and juvenile sire Tapit.

Medaglia d'Oro's southern hemisphere fee has yet to be announced.

Darley also has added Group 2 winner and 2008 Golden Slipper runner-up Von Costa de Hero to its Australian roster for 2010.
