Medaglia d'Oro sired five individual Eclipse Award finalists of 2017.

Medaglia d’Oro was represented by more Grade 1 winners than any other North American stallion in 2017, and that translated into five individual finalists when the 2017 Eclipse Awards candidates were announced last week, leading all stallions.

The Darley stallion is the sire of Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold, an Eclipse finalist for outstanding female sprinter, and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Talismanic, a finalist for outstanding turf male. Medaglia d’Oro’s other finalists are multiple Grade 1 winners Bolt d’Oro (2-year-old male, Elate (3-year-old female), and Songbird (older dirt female). Songbird already owns two Eclipse trophies.

Following Medaglia d’Oro with three finalists was Hill ‘n’ Dale Farm resident Curlin, whose sons Good Magic, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, and Solomini join Bolt d’Oro to round out the three finalists for outstanding 2-year-old male. Older dirt female finalist Stellar Wind is also a previous Eclipse champion.

Represented by two finalists each are More Than Ready, Quality Road, and the late Unbridled’s Song.

Distorted Humor, Lemon Drop Kid, and Unbridled’s Song were each represented by two finalists as broodmare sires. Lemon Drop Kid and Unbridled’s Song, along with Malibu Moon, make up a trio of stallions represented as both sires and broodmare sires among the Eclipse finalists.
