The Meadows: Newborn Sassy prevails in Adioo Volo

Newborn Sassy fended off a host of closers to claim the top prize in the Adioo Volo

Sent off at 1-2, Newborn Sassy didn't let down her legion of backers when she won the $110,950 Adioo Volo for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday afternoon at The Meadows in 1:51 1/5.

Newborn Sassy would settle in the third spot early, but she was out and on the move before Shezarealdeal (Dave Palone) hit the opening quarter in 26 4/5.  Newborn Sassy had to work to get to the top, though, as the half was reached in a swift 54 2/5 over a track left sloppy by heavy rain in the morning.  Skinny Dipper (Scott Zeron) would then come first-over on Newborn Sassy in the backstretch, and Skinny Dipper got to within half a length of the leader at the 1:22 4/5 three-quarters, but began to drop back as the field entered the final turn.

In the stretch Tetrick began to urge on Newborn Sassy while Shezarealdeal came to her outside and started to mount a rally, but Newborn Sassy responded and kept the challenge at bay by a neck at the finish line.  Heels On The Beach (Mike Wilder) finished in the third position.

Trainer Joann Looney-King also co-owns Newborn Sassy, a daughter of Western Ideal, with CC Racing LLC.  Newborn Sassy posted her 11th win from 21 career starts, and she has now earned $416,970.  She returned $3.00 to win.
