After a successful run dominating the Open ranks at the Meadowlands, Melady’s Monet had little trouble dispatching a field of seven competitors in the $62,100 Maturity at The Meadows on Saturday afternoon. Sent off as the prohibitive 1-2 favorite, driver John Campbell allowed the dust to settle before continuing on the front at the quarter in 28 seconds. The duo led through every call, posting a 56 4/5 middle half without so much as an anxious moment. In the stretch, Melady’s Monet drew clear from the pocket-sitting Possessed Fashion and first over Rose Run Parker to win by open lengths in 1:53. Local choice Classicality rallied from third over for second and Madewell Hanover came up the cones for third. “This is my favorite place. I love to come back here,” said trainer Kevin McDermott. “It’s great to win with a horse like this. He’s an incredible athlete.” Melady’s Monet paid $3.00 to win while scoring for the sixth time in nine starts this year. Melady Enterprises LLC own the 6-year-old gelding. Three $61,072 divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for 3-year-old fillies were contested earlier on the card. Safe From Terror (1:52 1/5), Serious Filly (1:53 2/5) and Storm Point (1:52 3/5) proved victorious.
