Meadows: Daylon Miracle upsets Shake It Cerry in Maturity

Daylon Miracle won by four lengths on Friday night.

Sent off as the heavy favorite in the $51,100 Maturity at The Meadows, Shake It Cerry failed in her first start of 2015. The double millionaire, making her 4-year-old debut after a Trotter of the Year season, faded to fourth in the lane as Daylon Miracle won easily in 1:53 3/5.

Shake It Cerry was fast off the gate and set fractions of 27 1/5, 56 1/5 and 1:24 3/5 ahead of the pocket-sitting Daylon Miracle. Anaffairtoremember pulled past the half and turned up the heat on Shake It Cerry around the final turn. It was those three in with a chance at the head of the lane, but Daylon Miracle powered away in the stretch for driver Aaron Merriman.

Cowgirl Hall rallied for second ahead of Anaffairtoremember and Shake It Cerry.

“I really thought I could have pulled anywhere,” said Merriman about making his move during the race. “I was very confident coming into the race.”

Daylon Miracle ($12.00 to win) is owned and trained by William Bercury. The victory was her fifth in seven starts this year. A 6-year-old mare by Pegasus Spur-Daylon Marvel, she has earned $474,907 in her career.
