The Meadowlands canceled the first of three scheduled all-turf cards on Monday afternoon following overnight rain and a forecast calling for more. The Meadowlands, in the midst of a harness meet, scheduled all-grass Thoroughbred cards on consecutive Mondays while the turf course at Monmouth Park undergoes renovation. With the main track converted to a crushed stone-dust surface for harness racing, The Meadowlands could not shift Monday's grass races to the dirt. The rainout will be made up by adding a day to Monmouth's September schedule, said Mike Dempsey, racing secretary for both tracks. The status of the canceled $60,000 Trenton Stakes for 3-year-old fillies is uncertain.
